What an outstanding season for this kid after going 114 overall in the 2011 draft. 60GP, 42G, 84P. Any Kitchner fans able to shed some light on what kind of goals he scores, strengths, weaknesses, NHL upside and NHL readiness?
Not a Kitchener fan, but he's a pretty dynamic offensive talent. However the size issue and not doing things that stick out as "elite" make him a boom/bust guy in my mind. The kid has hands, but I see him being a quality European player as opposed to a quality NHLer, but if he continues to score and later score at the pro level, you never know.

So, I see the sarcasm smiley but I'm going to point this out anyway, because I'm not sure if this was understood or not.
I think he meant that he believes Rieder will have a good career in europe rather than a good NHL career.
I figured as much, though I do honestly believe that rieder is not that small, 5-11 is pretty average nowadays. The guys playing in the OHL and putting up a large quantity of points, being an effective two-way player and being clutch in the playoffs and he still cant earn a little it of dignity on the part of HF. "No Prospect is a sure thing" but Rieder is more so than not.
Great to see him having good playoffs. I actually was a bit disappointed with his first season in NA (given that he played in a mens league in Germany the year before) but he seemed to have adjusted / developed well now. That was one of the reasons he did not get taken earlier in the draft.
He always has been the better snipper compared to Tom Kühnhackl who he played with in juniors.
As a german happy to see our prospects all doing well in the CHL playoffs. Nöbels Kühnhackl Niederberger und Albetshauser all showing their talent. Good for German hockey and players using juniors to improve their game against top competition.
Rieder, a 19-year-old from Landshut, Germany, recorded 85 points in 60 games playing in his second OHL season with the Rangers and is an Edmonton Oilers prospect selected in the fourth round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He is currently first in OHL playoff scoring with 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in 14 games.
From a Kitchener fan POV, his has put his game together this past year. He has been an important part of our scoring (1st line wing), PP and PK (scares other teams with his short-handed goals). He got 2 short handed goals last night in a loss to London. I think his area of improvement has to be playing more physical style to make the next step. He doesnt shy away from it but IMO he doesnt initiate as much as one would like him to.
He's been good but keep in mind he's on a semi-stacked team.
Semi-stacked? Any given night, there are at least 8 rookies dressed and a lot of shifts with 6 of them on the ice (Gibson isn't a true rookie, but still in his first year in the league). On a good night, there are 3 OA's and one 19 year old dressed. The rest are 18 and younger.
Kitchener isn't even close to semi-stacked. But thanks for the laugh!
I remember I had him in in the 1st round of the draft last year lol. Hopefully, for the better of my ego, he becomes a star
To be fair, heading into the year he was slotted for a 1st round selection, but scouts saw the year he had as a disappointment. So not that much of a stretch to have him where you did

If the Oilers do end up drafting Yakupov, he will be back in Kitchener next season. The Oilers will be icing Eberle, Yakupov, Hemsky, and Jones on RW. Kind of sucks for Rieder as I don't see another year of Jr. really helping out his development.

His linemates are an OA who is having a fantastic year, and an 18 year old kid who will likely never play pro hockey. Without a doubt, Reider and Catenacci feed off each other and have an innate knowledge of where the other is on the ice at all times. They're a lot of fun to watch.

If you look down the roster, it's pretty sparse in terms of star quality or solid players. They've overachieved this year and have found a way to win a lot of games they had no real business taking, and have had an unexpected great playoff run until this week.

There are areas of his game that can use some work, especially on the defensive side of the game and working along the boards. Another year in junior isn't going to hurt him, and he'll have the chance to play another WJC.

True. Sol has improved a lot too.
As for him returning to Kitchener, no doubt. Rangers will be stronger next year and he should be there to lead them and gain that experience.
