Sorry, I dont see it.

Nice of you to cherry pick the road record. How about the improved record overall? Or all of the other statistical improvements that were posted in another thread?

I would never trust the "word" of a man that would do this in the first place.

If you are the type of person to have an "alleged" conversation with Coach Noel then run out to sell it off to a newspaper and wh0re yourself out then you are missing a chip! Duboff is certainly delusional if he thought this was going to end up putting him in a positive light?

Sad and pathetic small man

Reading between the lines it's sounds as if Duboff distilled Noel's remarks through his own perspective. Really, Noel's going to ask a total stranger for advice on how to motivate a player?

Obviously the two men had a conversation, but for how long and how in depth? I'm not calling bull**** on this, but I highly doubt that the discussion was as wide ranging and as comprehensive as Duboff claims. Claude Noel is not going to just drop his guard and offer up opinions to a hockey non-expert. It's just not going to happen.

I worked for the Jets 1.0, and was fortunate to speak with many famous and important NHL people over my tenure with the team, and even though I would've been considered an "insider", or at least "in the circle of trust", nobody was that forthcoming about the inner workings of front offices. One night, after a game with the Bruins, we were lucky enough to speak at length with Derek Sanderson, and he kept deflecting our questions when it came to some of the stuff that went on. Some topics are just not spoken about to the media or fans. I heard stories that will never be repeated - including some surprising situations regarding the Jets 1.0. They will go to the grave with me, as they will with the other guys I worked with - none of the juicy stuff has ever been reported as we have all kept our counsel regarding these matters. Mr. Duboff was, in my opinion, wrong to go public with this if it really happened.

It's also reprehensible that the G&M published an unverifiable piece of hearsay. How on earth would a creditable editor approve running this story? At best it's a exaggeration of a casual conversation, and more than likely it's a complete fabrication.

Nice calm post Darth

It is surprising to me how a paper like the Globe could post a gossip piece......some random guy that says he talked to the coach? HFBOARDS has higher standards

Stephen Brunt filed his story about the Thrashers being sold two weeks before it had even happened.

Which ended up being bunk... He works for the Globe too..

As a poster on a Blue Bombers forum just pointed out for all of us there, Chuck Duboff (who is a poster there as well) was actually the creator of a thread early last season where he basically ripped the fans a new one for sharing detailed information about what they saw at Bomber practices.

How ironic.

1. I am not a doctor but I am confident in diagnosing Chuck Duboff with small man sydrome. I hope he is enjoying his 15 minutes of fame.

2. Atrocious journalism from the G&M. When the Winnipeg Sun doesn't run with the story ......................well I am sure you can fill in the blanks for yourselves.

By the way, the chicken sandwich at Stella's is amazing.

I went there with my mom, sister and her now husband, and that was just about the only thing on that menu that appealed to me. I'm not much of a breakfast guy, and I really wanted a greasy cheeseburger. I was pretty choked when it was all eggs and ****.

The chicken sandwich though...was so good that I've never gone back because I'm scared it won't be as good the second time around and it will ****ing ruin the memory of the first time.

Even though I call BS on this story, I do think Noel needs to keep his mouth closed. He's often too open and revealing with the media.

TNSE (ie. Chipman, Chevy, Scott Brown, etc) run an extremely tight ship. They never allow leaks and always seem to prefer privacy, secrecy and non-disclosure.

Noel doesn't seem to follow their lead. I think they're going to have to sit him down soon and tell him to keep quiet.

I disagree. Stay true to yourself and share your experiences with others.

Sorry, but I felt compelled to create an account here to ask this: Why is anyone taking anything the G&M prints seriously? I also agree that it's a serious lapse in professional journalism that's better served for 2nd rate twitter accounts.

So just because they had a better record and seemingly improved it's okay that they were that terrible on the road?

Shouldn't it be the other way around? Is it not concerning that the team seemingly improved but regressed away from home? The "better" team did worse on the road. How is that not a problem?

Yeah I'm with you. He talks too much. Let's not forget this gem:
Quote:
“Stunned,” was Noel’s reply when asked what his reaction would be if Scheifele were eventually returned to junior hockey. “Stunned. You watch him, he has high hockey intellect and I’ve said that all along. He is clever and his teammates realize it. He’s smart. I’ll be stunned. I’ll guarantee you, he’d have to be a complete failure in these nine games. He also knows he’s here day-by-day and he’s not guaranteed anything but I would be stunned to see him go back. And we’ll make that assessment. I don’t want to sound boastful but I’d be stunned.”

Regardless, that part of the article seems shadiest. Losing culture? Well, ok. But your own captain has two rings. Buff won a championship. Stuart and Wheeler have been on playoff teams. Wellwood has been there. Your 4th consist of one guy who played in the finals last year and two other guys that work their ass off. Pavelec won a Calder cup with the Wolves. Then you have some of the young guys who just have to LEARN about a winning culture. I mean it's not like the whole roster is built through losing. It's more just a lack of experience and the RIGHT veteran guys. Hainsey has never been in the playoffs but he has always came across as a solid leader/locker room guy despite that.

My point is that there were many stats and figures that point to the fact that Noel and company did a good job with the team this year. You decided to cherry pick one stat that would fuel your opinion that he did not.

Maybe instead of saying "losing culture" would you be less upset with "bad habits"? Because that is kind of what he is trying to say.

He mentioned their practice habits specifically. Is someone one here going to offer proof that Noel is lying when he says that the team had terrible practice habits? What do you call that? You can call it losing culture, bad habits, poor professionalism, it doesn't matter. The point is there are things that the last coaching staff / regime allowed that Noel and co do not want to see continue.

And it's not that it was probably intended as an insult to Atlanta per se. Even good teams can have a "losing culture", or "bad habits" that need to be changed. Look at the Flyers. Management decided that they didn't like what was happening to the team. Richards and Carter by all accounts were not bringing the right culture to the team. You could easily call that a "losing culture". Just because the Flyers made it to the final's with that squad did not stop their management from deciding that that was not the type of culture that they wanted, nor one that they thought would eventually win the cup.
