So we could've had Anze Kopitar but we chose Jack Skille....
:
Then they also likely wouldn't of gotten Toews and Kane. Definitely not Kane with Kopi playing in 06/07 but would they take another top line center or someone else in favor of Toews... maybe Frolik gets drafted by the Hawks
I try to stick to things from the Bill Writz days or after the cup run.
There's plenty saying let Hammer go... That could of been solved if they instead just offered a decent deal around 2 Mil mid for him to grab before San Jose pulled the screwjob. They could of kept Ladd or Neimi after that one.
Yeah a Stanley cup was totally not worth a few mistakes here and there
The '06 and '07 drafts really set the tone for the Cup run. Tallon was decent at acquiring talent, horrible at picking out proper compensation. The cap issues were on him.
I'd stop the Hawks from hiring Kitchen. Just imagine how good this team could have been the last year and could be this year if that ****head wasn't around to **** up the special teams.
I'm on the I hate Jack Skille and he haunts my dreams. Anze Kopitar would have been better.... by a little
The only prospect we've had that I hated more (in recent memory) is Kyle Beach, he is useless.
Kyle Beach has had a decent year and seems to have matured a lot lately. He probably won't be worthy of his draft position but he can still be a solid NHLer
I'd rather of kept Byfuglien. Just for the playoff beast that he is. Ladd was good offensively, defensively, and had some grit. But he wasn't as dominate as Byfuglien in the playoffs and he has never put up great offensive numbers in the playoffs either. Ladd only had 6 points in the Cup run playoffs although he missed time with injury. Byfuglien had 5 GW goals and was just a beast.
They make greater than $12M? So you'd have the same problem all over again.
At <$2M Ladd was an interesting player. At >$5M not so much.
Ladd isn't at >$5M... $4.4M for another 4 years. And who knows, maybe he takes a little less to stay with a Cup contender, not to mention he isn't the Captain when he signs that deal.
Ladd was never going to be resigned. Niemi and Buff would have been resigned first.
Honestly, even if it meant no cup, I'd rather would have been able to watch good/great hawks games as a kid and through my teens instead of watching the worst franchise in all of sports that Bill gave us.
He completely ruined a whole generation of hawks fans.

Buff was the 1st guy we traded, Ladd the last.
Bowman wanted to keep Ladd and he would have been able without the offer sheet

That doesn't necessaily mean much. If Bowman is a good GM who plans things out well - he probably had it all planned out how everything would unfold.
For an example of what I mean, read the article on Phil Emery and his approach to the draft. How the guy plans out every possible scenerio and is ready for anything and everything. If Bowman did that - then the Byfuglien portion of his plan just happened to come up first and nothing more.
He wanted to keep Ladd all the way. He took the best that was offered after all other things happened. We had enough Cap Space for Ladd 1.6 - we never had the chance to keep Buff or Steeger with 3.0
