Olden released from deal? (Injured & not playing)

What is deal? Was this just a pro tryout contract and still is in system? Or has he been released outright?

It's from his ATO.

He may be going to play with Norway at the WC.

Exactly what Rare Jewel said.

We don't lose his rights or anything.
My guess is he returns to Erie as an over-ager, then signs his ELC after next year. We're in no rush to get him into the Marlies or Leafs lineup.

Edit: Ignore this. Maybe he'll re-enter.

You can't release someone from an NHL team.

Judging by his Twitter, it didn't sound like it.

Made mention of him returning home, and starting his summer vacation.

Going back for an overage year in junior is never a good sign. I think this guy leaving Sweden was a terrible mistake.

Ok the Otters are crap.

However; has Olden regressed, is he not going to develop into someone
NHL ready.

Maybe its an AHL roster thing. No one knows for sure, what the reason
could be.

Absolutely not. He needed to start playing the North American game, and didn't do too bad as a rookie, new to the league, an on one of the worst teams in CHL history.

Also, in the case of the Leafs, it's a numbers game. Look how many prospects we have joining the Marlies next year (potentially). He still needs development time, and he spent a lot of the season injured.

Wtach him go back into the draft, Detroit select him in the 7th rd, and become the next Zetterberg

That would be our luck.

Whenever I hear his name I'm reminded of that Leafs Talk caller.

"We got a guy with the Errie Otters, Sondre Olden and he's the next coming of Mats Sundin"

Andy: "Sigh"

Actually Blasted Sabre, Thommie Bergman the Leafs European scout, had persuaded the team to use the 79th pick from LA on Olden, screwing over Detroit . Hakan Andersson, who is Detroit's European scout is Bergman's friend. The two had discussed Olden before Bergman had seen the kid play, after hearing Andersson's extreme praise of the youngster (and not to mention knowing his ability in pulling gems out of the later rounds), Bergman went and scouted Olden. He returned several times more, and at the draft in the 3rd round with Olden still on the board, he suggested that they use the 79th pick for him before Detroit snatched him at 81st. the rest is history. So if he came up again I'm sure Detroit wouldn't be so slow this time.

Saw him live playing the London Knights who had Tinordi, Namestnikov, Knight, on the ice plus all their young guns. Olden was the best player on the ice. Played the power play and scored a shortie on the PK. This guy is big, fast and has a great shot. He is the real deal and letting him go would be a big mistake. Lot's of time for the Leafs to sign him.

It was kind of obvious that Olden wouldn't have been ready to play in the AHL based on his less than impressive OHL season. He is an odd prospect. There is a substantial wow factor to seeing this tall, skinny kid's skills without the production. He always was and I suspect remains a project.

Wait so what happened? Did we lose his rights or did he just not make the Marlies?

He signed an ATO with the Marlies, but was released from that contract. David Broll, Josh Leivo, and Stuart Percy are all currently on these type of deals to keep them with the Marlies.

His drafted rights still remain with the Maple Leafs (like any unsigned prospect), but will be expiring in June (I believe) if he is not signed to an entry-level deal.
