Canada has a lack of QUALITY left handed defensemen for the 2014 games. Ryan Murray has the potential to pull a Drew Doughty 2010. 1 year in the NHL next year Olympic Team. He's the lone draft pick from this draft who can accomplish this. Kid can skate and won't be intimidated. Hope he's chosen because he could be a 2014 possibility.
@DarrenDreger: Follow up to Ryan Murray and team Canada. I do expect he will be asked and will play some exhib games for Can prior to World Champs. #TSN
i guess they are high on this kid...good for him...he will get some exhibition games with team Canada...
Versteeg, Spezza, Vermette, Alzner, Burns, Hamhuis are probably the safest bets to get asked and also accept at this point if they got knocked out. Those are the types of players you will get.
If Pittsburgh gets knocked out, I could see Letang and Neal going perhaps. Neal more likely. Coburn, Simmonds, Giroux if Pittsburgh comes back.
I doubt Spezza will go his wife just had a baby a couple weeks ago.
Why do you want Dany Heatley? He would bring nothing.
What are you talking about? Dany Heatley has an excellent record at the World Championships. We can say a lot of things about him, but we cannot complain about his willingness to represent his country and his good performances at the Worlds so far.
“there is no real me. Only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours, and maybe you can even sense that our lifestyles are probably comparable, I simply am not there."
Hockey Canada and many Canadians certainly do care about this tournament. Canada I believe had 3 gold medals in the the 2000's, with some silvers in there as well.
We lost 1 game last year by 1 goal in a game that I sincerely believe we out-played the Russians in.
Some Canadians care, not many.

What about when Canada wins? Do you ever see us celebrate on the streets like you see Europeans do? No? Well that says it all.
I can tell you now before the tournament starts that Hockey Canada cares, the players that participate care, people who post in this forum care, but the general public in Canada does not. The best evaluation of how much one country cares in when one wins and when Canada wins, we may be all happy in this forum but outside this domain, most people aren't even aware that Canada won Gold and don't even really care to know.

Exactly.
I'm sure that if our nation cared about the Worlds, the players would be much more willing to participate, but considering our lack of interest, it's hard to blame the players for wanting to rest instead. Why bother when even after winning the most they'll get is a page in the sport section? At most a cover page, but that's it. The only reason to go is to prepare for the next Olympics.
Whenever the tournament are running, many cares. For example a Canada team will never accept a loss to Russia.
This is a tournament where countries like Germany, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland can go very far and that is very important for future of hockey.
Bah, Canada has loss many times to Russia at the Worlds. It's "annoying" but not more than that. Some of you only look at this forum. Look at the big picture, look what happens on the streets. Most don't give a darn.
Anyway, so far I like the look of this year's Team Canada. Too bad Rick Nash and Steven Stamkos aren't going, it could have been an awesome team.
Yes, and only 0,5% in the streets give a damn about stanley cup.
Myself follow both WC and Stanley Cup. But i prefer my country Sweden wins WC more than i care my team Detroit win Stanley Cup.
0.5%?
Trust me bud, when a team is playing for the Stanley Cup there is no comparable on earth sport wise. I'm guessing you don't live in Detroit because there's no chance in hell a tier 2 tourney where euros go to drink matters more then Hockey's ultimate prize. Even if a Canadian team doesn't make the Stanley Cup Final and aren't on the streets celebrating, the whole nation is watching, and as is the whole Hockey World. It's the last trophy to be awarded and signals an end to the Hockey year with Best Hockey Team in the World coming out on top. If you were a Red Wings fan you would know that
Can you read English? I'm not talking about Sweden but Canada. That's the whole point; you care, we don't.
You just had to bring the argument about caring and fan interest, right. What about when Europe didn't care about the WJC and almost only Canada did? Did you care about that? Canadians celebrated like there was no tomorrow. You make it sound like cheering and celebrating is something that only crazy Europeans do, when you do exactly the same but for other championships instead. You know, we didn't even have TV coverage for the WJC until recently. Pretty sure Canadian TV has been covering the World Champs since forever.
You're obviously a fan enough since you took your time to come to the International forum, and so are the rest hanging around here, so why don't we skip the yearly bull about caring and talk about the tournament instead.
Why does this get re-hashed every year by non-Canadian posters?
Canada cares about the Stanley Cup playoffs. The World Championships is an interesting tournament but nobody plans their days around watching the games.
Why does it bother non-Canadians so much that it isn't viewed as an important tournament in Canada?

I think the major problem from non-Canadians is (and I may be way off base here) is that Canadiabs treats a tournament that nobody outside of Canada cares about (the World Juniors) as such a huge deal, yet treats a tournament that a lot of europeans care about with such apathy?

Wouldn't that be answering the question though? Canadians treat it that way because they don't care and treat the Juniors differently because they do care.....
I don't know. I like both tournaments but I would admit to being much more excited for the World Juniors and if the Oilers were in the playoffs I likely wouldn't watch much of the WHC at all.

Why do some of you always get this all wrong? It's almost as if you don't know how to read! I was only trying to point out the reality regarding the interest of the World Championships because someone had brought the subject up. Year after year this has to be reminded because some Europeans don't seem to grasp the concept that Canada really doesn't care about the World Championships. It's actually a strange reaction. You already know we don't care as much, but at the same time insist that we do. I did not judge whether you celebrate it or not or how you celebrate it. The videos are meant as proofs, not as something to denigrate. I actually think the celebrations are freaking awesome.

Am I enough of a fan for taking the time to come to the International forum? You bet I am! I personally prefer the World Championships over the Stanley Cup but I'm obviously part of the minority in Canada. Did I ever say that I do not care? I sometime take days off of work to watch this tournament. I'm a big fan of international hockey since as long as I can remember. I sometime enjoy the WJC more than the WC, but I consider the WC more important and would rather see Canada win the senior tournament.
So please, read and understand the context and intent instead of jumping the gun.
