Im a Leafs fan coming in peace and i just wanted to get an idea of what you Ducks fans think about your offseason. I know its early and you guys but then again we have nothing else better to do. You guys probably aren't used to it, but we Leafs fans are always free this time of the year.
I wanted to say that your team deserved better. Like all of you, nobody in Leafsnation expected you guys to miss out on the postseason when the season started. You guys are a great team and have real good foundational pieces. Rest assured, your future looks brighter than ours. But I was wondering, what resulted in such a unfathomable collapse despite having superstar calibre players, and how do the results affect your perception of the current Ducks players. I want to know:
1) which one of your players are you willing to part with this offseason (if any)?
2) What are the players you guys are targeting to draft?
3)What are Ducks' priorities this offseason?
4) you guys will have TONS of capspace. Who to spend it on?
Regardless, I want SuperSelanne to play another season!
That is what the Spaniards said when they visited the Aztecs.

1.) Lydman, Visnovsky, Cogliano
2.) Galchenyuk if he falls is the best bet. It seems likely that Forsberg, Dumba, and Trouba will be available, so it would seem it's between those 3. Guys like Faksa, Rielly, Ceci, Pouilot, Teravainen (maybe...haven't seen enough, that's why I'm uneasy) are just redundant in this system. Any of Yakupov, Murray, Grigorenko falling to us IMO would be like an auto pick from the Ducks.
3.)
Sign Selanne
Sign Koivu
Sign Schultz
Getzlaf and Perry extensions
Decide what to do with Ellis with Fasth and Tarkki in the system
Replace Blake and Hagman
Find another safe shut-down d-man
Not much that I would change to be honest. The team was on an upswing after January and the youth is only going to be better next year
4.) Another bad FA market where we're probably going to have to grossly overpay. I feel like we'll hold on to a few millions for Getz and Per's extensions. This team runs on a 56 million dollar internal cap budget.
I guess personally I'd like Carle, Wideman, Stuart, Parenteau, maybe Hejduk
1. Blake, JDD, Sexton
2. C or tough D
3. Sign Schultz (probably not gonna happen), get ridd of JDD and Sexton (pretty unrealistic to). It all depends wheather Teemu stays.
4. On nothing. We are not a cap space team, i don`t get it why ussually people forget it.
PS
JDD + Sexton for Kadri - TOR gets promising, young goaltender to go along with their unstable goalie situation and one of the fastest guys in the league with fast release, to skate along Grabovski and/or Kessel.
Sorry, couldn`t resist, needed a morning laugh. It is not directly on you, abdew29, don`t take it to seriousely.
BM will go dumpster-diving like always IMO. I'd be surprised if he signs anyone notable. In his defense, there really isn't a whole lot out there.
Not sure if he got any big chances in the past. We are a budget team, and sometimes we have to even overpay some players, we cant just go after any player we want, we got to understand it. Dallas, Nashville and other budget teams are in the same situation.
1) Hardly anything that the Leafs or anyone else would be interested in. I'd hold onto Getzlaf, Perry and Ryan for next season and frankly, the only guys that I want gone are pending UFA's (Ellis, Hagman and Blake). I expect Deslauriers and Sexton to be buried in the minors or to be bought out.
2) No idea. I'm trusting the scouting staff on this one.
3 and 4) Getting a top six forward, preferly a center. That's where the cap space should be spended, no matter if it's on free agents or in a trade or two. I'd use prospects, picks or young guys like McMillan and Bonino in return, so teams in somewhat of a rebuilding mode would make the best trade partners.
what I'm expecting to see next year:
Penner - Getzlaf - Perry
Ryan/Palmieri - NEW - Selanne
Cogliano - Koivu - Smith-Pelly
Beleskey - Bonino - NEW
Extra: Pelley/NEW
Extra: Parros/NEW
*Cogliano traded when/if Palmieri proves ready for a top six spot.
*Bonino++ traded for new 2nd line center. If the new 2nd line center comes through free agency, put Bonino on the 4th line and move MacKenzie to the wing.
Penner's wife filed for divorce so he might be looking for some homeboys to hang out with next season.
Penner is a very likeable guy. But his questionable work ethic has been well documented. I will say, I saw about the last 5 or 6 Kings regular season games as well as their first two playoff games and Penner was looking pretty awesome. But then, that's exactly the problem with him. He can be darn good. Be he can be darn bad. I don't really want to see him back in Anaheim.
You are oblivious. First you wouldnt trade the 6th+Etem for Duchene now you think we have a realistic chance at Suter...
Not a chance in hell Suter comes to Anaheim, gotta look at realistic targets. Were better off looking for a couple of cheaper signings for the bottom six or getting a Top 6 forward via trade.

I don't see the need for a defenseman unless we trade Lydman. Beauchemin, Fowler, Visnovsky, and Sbisa are all locks. Lydman is a very capable #5th defenseman, and Brookbank will likely compete with Vatanen for the 6th spot. And this is assuming Schultz doesn't sign with the Ducks.

If anybody competes with Brookbank for the 6th D spot it will be a defensive minded player like Clark. Not a rookie, European, offensive minded D who needs to learn the rink size in north America as well as everything else rookies need to learn. Brookbank really isn't that bad of a 5 or 6 guy.
I still think Brookbank will be looking to get paid this offseason, unless he takes a discount to stay ($800-900K per year) he's not worth re-signing IMO.

Thats a good point. I believe the Ducks went through the exact same thing with him two years ago. He was coming off of what was then considered a good year for him and there were rumors he would leave. But he ended up taking a two year deal to stay. Not that everyone thought it was a great signing.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out. But I do think he is an adequate 5 or 6 guy if the price is right. I'll take a guess and say Bob offers him two years for $1M per. Will that get it done? I don't know, we'll see.

I forgot Brookbank was a FA, and I don't think Murray will sign him or anyone to replace him since Vatanen, Clark and maybe Schultz are waiting in the wings. I don't necessarily agree with this idea, but I base it off Bob's past signings (or lack of).

I agree I dont think we need a defenseman unless Lubo decides to retire. I think Murray makes a signing like Smaby to compete for that 6th spot/ for depth purposes. I would prefer us looking for forward help rather than defense help, we need serious forward upgrades, and as you said we have Brookbank/Clark/Vatanen to compete for the 6th spot.

...Selanne has not been the only Duck weighing retirement. The season took a toll on defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky, who had several injuries and a big loss of production, but time has changed his thinking.
"I was very mad during the season because I don't feel comfortable," he said. "I think it was worst season ever for me. My confidence was very low….[But] I want to play. I want to be here with my teammates."
