SC-Gwinnett still tied midway in the 2nd OT. What a crazy series.

Wow i'm shocked. Gwinnett was built more like Wheeling. a team for regular season success. Still a fun series that I enjoyed listening to with no rooting interest for either squad. South Carolina barely qualified and now they are advancing without their stud prospect Grauber(sp)in net.

Starting the series at home was huge for South Carolina, IMO.

Even though they won both games in Gwinnett they needed a few calls to go their way and 10-11 periods to do it. Who knows how the series would have started had it started in Gwinnett. They usually struggle playing @ Gwinnett for whatever reason.

I do think it helps the lower seeds but unlike Elmira they made it out alive with a split. Opposite results at home, i'm shocked at the turn of events.

That's the same way he played in Cincinnati. He always had a sh**eating grin which drove opponents crazy.

He made it all the way to the NHL with that game. He was the toast of the town in Montreal for a minute one year.

So he sounds like Yannick Tofu except he's a WAYYYYYYYY BETTER player.

I love a guy like Stewart as long as they know boundaries exist and whats important to do within their role. Tifu certainly doesn't know that. If you let the fans rattle you your not that useful.

Have to disagree Ryan, How is Stewart a better player? He got a shot in the NHL mainly because he was a fighter/ grinder. I much rather have Tifu than Stewart.

Just curious not to start a bash thread but who is your players you love to hate in the league?

I gotta say mine are-
Haddad, Tifu, Paquette

#3 Las Vegas Wranglers vs. #7 Idaho Steelheads
Series Matchup Sheet

Las Vegas and Idaho renew their long postseason rivalry in the Western Conference Semifinals. This marks the second consecutive year the two have met, and the fifth playoff series in the last nine years between the Wranglers and Steelheads. Idaho has won three of the previous four meetings, winning 3 games to 2 in the 2004 Pacific Division Semifinals, 4 games to 2 in the 2007 National Conference Semifinals and 3 games to 2 in the 2011 Western Conference Quarterfinals. Las Vegas’ lone win was 4 games to 3 in the 2006 West Division Semifinals.

The Wranglers defeated Utah 3 games to 0 in the Western Conference Quarterfinals to advance to the second round for the first time since 2009. Las Vegas went 7-1-3 against the Steelheads in the regular season, including a 5-0-2 mark in the final seven head-to-head meetings. Judd Blackwater led the Wranglers in the series with 13 points (5g-8a), while Joe Fallon went 5-1-2 with a 2.56 goals-against average and a save percentage of .903.

Idaho advanced to the second round for the third consecutive year with a 3 games to 2 win over Ontario in the Western Conference Quarterfinals. GDT: ECHL Conference Semifinals

Alright, quick previews for each series. Yes, I realize that it

#1 Alaska Aces vs. #5 Stockton Thunder

The Thunder came off of a sweep of the Colorado Eagles, while the Aces have remained idle. The Aces were perfect against the Thunder in Alaska with a 3-0 record, but were not so hot down in Stockton with a 2-4-1 record. Kevin Baker (27G, 29A) is Stockton's top scorer, while Dan Kissel (35G, 33A) is Alaska's top scorer. Both teams have solid defense and goaltending, and offense can be bipolar at times for both teams. However, Alaska has more talent and that will win them the series.

Prediction - Alaska in 6

#3 Las Vegas Wranglers vs. #7 Idaho Steelheads

The Wranglers come off of a sweep of the Utah Grizzlies, while the Steelheads are coming off of a five game upset of the Pacific Division champions in the Ontario Reign. The Steelheads have an outstanding goaltender in Jerry Kuhn, but Joe Fallon is just as talented for Las Vegas. The Wranglers have much more firepower with options such as Adam Miller, Greg Paukovich, and Eric Lampe. The Steelies have a few deadly players such as Jacob Cepis and Derek LeBlanc. Kuhn will frustrate the Wranglers to no end, but the Wranglers will find a way to win.

Prediction - Las Vegas in 7

#1 Elmira Jackals vs. #5 Florida Everblades

This one will be an interesting series for sure. Elmira stormed back from a 2-0 deficit to win their series against the Reading Royals, while the Everblades outplayed Greenville and swept them. The Jackals post the league's top scorer in Dustin Gazley (25G, 60A), however, Florida has a strong goaltender in John Muse (2.42 GAA, .920 save %), and they have been red hot lately. Whoever wins this series likely wins the Eastern Conference.

Prediction - Florida in 7

#3 Kalamazoo Wings vs. #7 South Carolina Stingrays

Two teams I love to hate here. South Carolina survived multiple marathon games in an upset of the Gwinnett Gladiators, while Kalamazoo bested the Wheeling Nailers. The Stingrays are a balanced team that can win in both offensively and defensively, while the K-Wings rely on a high powered offensive attack to win games. Phillip Grubauer is one of the top goalies in the league (2.22 GAA, .918 save %), but scorers for Kalamazoo such as Trent Daavettila (18G, 56A), Kory Karlander (18G, 37A), and Darryl Bootland (25G, 28A). Despite the fact that South Carolina is a strong, balanced team, Kalamazoo will outgun them and find a quick path to the conference finals.

Prediction - Kalamazoo in 5

Stingrays already in a 2-0 hole. Kalamazoo is just flat out better. Even Madore's goaltending hasn't been able to save them so far.

Both 1 seeds have lost home ice as they win Game 1's and lose Game 2's.

Aces got screwed by the refs. Plain and simple. Leblanc called several phantom penalties on the Aces (including the one that lead to Stockton's game winner), while missing several blatant penalties by Stockton. Even the coach said that "It seems like if we breathe on them, we get a penalty.'

That seemed to be the way it went for Elmira. Could not do anything without the official blowing the whistle and sending us to the box. ECHL needs to really take a hard look at some of it officials.

Florida may be the dirtiest team i've ever seen that doesn't have thugs on the roster. They get away with so much intereference and obstruction. Southern fans(mostly greenville)warned me of this.

This Woody Womack guy is an idiot, this article could wake up the Jackals:

http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2012/...godfrey-ramps/

He's got it all wrong. The cheering was for larocque sticking up for his teammate. Also...was the hir clean? Perhaps. Was it necessary? HELL NO. He could have easily hit him in another fashion. I think thats the big deal here.

these minor league playoffs are making my head hurt .. so ECHL doesn't reseed anymore (they did last year right?) and the SPHL decided to have a 3-game series for their league finals! even the AHL is cutting down to 5 games at least for the first round

Was gunna ask why they don't reseed. We should be playing SC instead!

I'm fine with not reseeding. We need to avoid a matchup with Idaho at all costs.
