If there's one team I hope has some success this spring, it's the Panthers. They may not be the most entertaining to watch but I admire Dineen and the work he did this year. On paper, they may be the biggest darkhorse but I can see them shocking a few teams.

I definitely will be pulling for colossal nose-dives by the Rangers, Flyers, Bruins and Penguins. If any of those go far, the hype machine by the national media next fall will be even more annoying to put up with.

I never really understood the resentment over some teams getting a lot of hype.

There are two ways you get that kinda hype:

1) Be a good team
2) Be a good, big city team

If you don't fit into those categories, you likely won't see lots of love from the network guys.

I never resent another team for the attention they get. It's silly.

I've noticed many people's interest in hockey seems to be driven more by hate of another team than by love for their own. People never hesitate to rattle off all the players and teams they hate. It's kinda funny, really. I honestly don't hate any teams or players, although I do have favorites and love watching the game. Hell, I'll stay up and watch a meaningless game between two bottomfeeders if it's a close one.

I'm cheering for the Preds as well.

Go Flyers in the 1st round because I hate the Pens. I like that Crosby is back. He has rehabbed my hate for them

I'm looking forward to the Wings-Nashville series. And the rest of the west. Winner of the Wings-Preds series (barring injuries) might be a strong candidate to go all the way to the SC Final.

I find I could care less about the East now. Pens are going to end up in SCF. Wake me when its time for Game 1 SCF.

For me, it's all about goaltending now. Smith, Elliott, Howard, Schneider over Crawford, Nemi, Rinne, Quick.

Howard/Rinne is the dual I really want to watch.

Yeah that first round is going to be intense. Living near Detroit it'll be fun to watch the Red Wings playoff atmosphere develop.

I think you're right about the East as well, though the Pitt/Philly series will be a fun one as a hockey fan in general.

I'm going with Caps in the East. They beat us for the last playoff spot and I want to see them make something of it. Plus they have Bäckström who played for "my" team in Sweden and is a true talent.

In the West I'm rooting for Wings. When they're on their game, it's the most beautiful game in the league. And taking out Preds gives us better outcome with the Goose-trade, right?

But most of all I just want Rangers to get beaten, fast and ugly!

Yes I do! He's always got that smug "I'm so good looking" smirk going on, and he does this totally stupid commercial for Head & Sholders shampoo in Sweden.

Meh, I don't follow a specific team, I just like one team better than the other in the particular matchup.

Thanks for the vote of confidence but it looks like I was completely wrong about the East!!

Pens are getting sweept. I think Ottawa might have developed some momentum even though they shouldn't be able to compete with the Rags. (Another one of those Foligno's....)

And Caps are way more resilient than I thought they would be.

i hate the flyers, always have... but i love a lot of that roster... and its not the superstar talent of giroux, or the top veteran talent in briere and jagr... or even the high draft pick in JVR or voracek...

it's sean couturier, scott hartnell, and max talbot... those are my kind of hockey players... the sabres don't really have anyone like those guys... (marcus foligno is the only hope)

Completely agree. Hate them as a team, but love most of their players.

Also, it's a LOT easier to like them with Pronger and JVR out.

I used to harbor some level of distain for Hartnell but that's changed over the past year. Hearing him miked up a couple of times made me realize he's a complete hockey player. Tremendous intensity, passion, grit and meanness. Great team player who will stick up for anyone on his team. And a pretty good skill set as well. A throw back to Wendal Clark, Darren McCarty, Ian LaPerierre and Ryan Symth.

I think to told me you like Hanzal from Phoenix too?

normally id go with Vancouver, but the fans reaction to the trade really rubbed me the wrong way.

id like to go with St Louis, but ken hitchcock? ugh... thats a tough sell... cant do it.

Nashville would be okay, but we have their 1st. so no.

still a Briere fan, but flyers look too good. and what fun would that be?

patrick kane? maybe. but now that i think of it, there is a buffalo connection to thirteen(?) of the teams still in it.

its hard for me to get excited for a non sabre team, even if its just for the playoffs.

The Rangers-Kings would probably have a high viewer rating.

I'd like to see the Blues and Philly. Though I wouldn't mind seeing Nashville or Florida

So now that my bandwagon team is all but out, I'm not sure who I want to root for

I do have the set of teams that I'm rooting against for this round ...Hawks, Wings, Rangers, Pens...

such a good comparison

i like Hanzal very much, but i dont think he's the same kind of player. i would love to have him, he would bring a lot of what this team lacks.

when i look at these playoff rosters, and the elevated games of guys like Dustin Brown, the dominant abilities of young players like Couturier, the performance of the size+skill stypes..... it just makes me more and more aware of how far away the Sabres are... some people think that type of *****ing and moaning is annoying... i think it's simply the truth.

I would LOVE to have Hartnell on this team. He's exactly the sort of player the top 6 needs

What's to say one of our young guys wouldn't elevate their game in the playoffs?
