Carkner did exactly what Boyle did in game 1 except Carkner did it to Boyle instead of Gaborik or Richards.
Are people here blind? There is no way they are equivalent situations. Boyle was being a ***** and went over board in a scrum. Carkner pummelled his guy.
As I asked in my previous post, can anyone recall an incident where a player was suspended for instigating a fight? I can't and I've watched hockey for a long time.
Tie Domi on Ulf Samuelsson (also on the Rangers at the time). He got eight games. This is eerily similar and the penalty should be similar as well.
This incident reminds me of Domi on Magnus Arvedson. IMO all of these incidents are gutless. Nothing to be proud of Senators fans.
I don't think the Hagelin-Alfredsson incident is unrelated; that was part of the payback for Carkner.
Carkner handled it right and Boyle cowered. Boyle should have gotten 2 minutes (even up like Karlsson in game 1) and Carkner 5 minutes for fighting. No other penalty or fine.
As far as Shenanagans I have no respect for his decisions. He's been totally inconsistent in his rulings and explanations all season. However, he did say that 1 playoff game equals 6 regular season games so don't expect more than a $2500 fine or at most 1 game for any infraction especially where there is no "severe visible" injury. The elbow on Alfie and Gaudstad's hit on Winchester both caused concussions but they were ruled incidental hockey plays.
If it was my call it would be nothing for Phillips, nothing to a possible $2500 fine for Carkner (to be paid by Karlsson) and 1 playoff game for Hagelin (additional on ice price to be paid later).
Won't be shocked at all to see bush league Shanahan to suspend Carks and not Hagelin...
if he ****s this up in anyway, i want him gone. enough of this inconsistent discipline. it screws with the whole game. shanahan has already ruined any credibility he had imo. he needs to work hard to gain it back now.
What makes me laugh is Boyle coming out in game two ready to continue with his faux tough guy act. He goes for a hit on Smith that is a bit late, then he turns around and BAM hello Matt Carkner telling him it is time to pay up.

I'm sure Carkner would gladly fight Scott, the first damn time he asked. Knowing the Rangers, they probably consider Scott pounding Greening to be payback for Carkner instead of actually fighting the guy involved.
Really? This incident reminds me of the time Matt Carkner challenged Boyle to a fight, Boyle turtled and so Carkner pounded his face in for being a wimp and not respecting the hockey code.
I love how the ref was just standing there watching it all as Carkner was punching Boyle on the ground. He never made any attempt to break it up. He was probably wondering if one of the rangers players was going to come save Boyle.

Boyle knew it was coming and should have dropped the gloves. The fact that he got pummeled is because he was too much of a ***** to drop his gloves with Carkner. His gloves werent on while he was punching Karlsson.

And? I'm not saying I think this stuff should be in the game but it was something that our team needed. Sure it would have been better if Boyle fought but it seems to me Boyle wanted nothing to do with it. Ottawa had to make some kind of statement early and unfortunately it was an ugly looking incident with a 5 minute PK as a result.
I want our team to win, not be 'honorable' and above stuff like Boyle's cheapshots.

And nothing. I wasn't speaking either for or against it. I was correcting someone else.
I may be in the minority here but I figure roughing should be roughing. Letting someone punch a guy in the head repeated after the whistle because it's the playoff shouldn't be what hockey is about.

That's true it's not what hockeys about, having said that when old timers say if you go after our players we will put an inforcer out to take care of these guys this is what I always pictured would happen.
