He's gonna look worse without Weber and when he signs for that high of a price tag, I would not be shocked to see pitchforks lining up beside his mansion.
Suter is probably the better all around defender. But Weber's skillset is more difficult to replace. You can't teach size, and not everyone with size is willing to use it consistently. Also that slapshot is crazy!
I hope the Preds are able to sign Suter (though it seems lately that he will be gone), but at least we have Roman Josi coming along who can replace more of what Suter has brought over the years. There is nobody who could replace Weber.
I love all these posts about how Suter will look worse without Weber. Suter looked pretty good when he played without Weber by his side, back when Hamhuis and Weber played together.
Typical case of flash over substance, FTR Weber is a great player in his own right.
Suter of d-man that excel in any situation with anyone he plays with. The sample size is small without Weber, but he played off the charts at the Olympics (just one example). Weber is similar, although I don't believe he is as well-rounded. At the end of the say, Suter is going to paid.
Suter is a great defenseman.
Weber is a game changer. (Meaning, opposing teams take him into account more so than Suter)
Suter will be offered more than $7m, but expect he'll sign for a little less to a destination of his choosing. No hard feelings though, he's earned it.
I don't see him replicating those offensive numbers without a very good offensive partner, and it's not like his numbers are anything special to begin with.
No question he will get over seven million a season but will it be the right move? Obviously defensemen play better with another number one defensemen on their pairing, so you'd simply be wrong if you think Suter will look as good if not better without Weber. Weber won't look as good either mind you.
I'd be cautious if I was a team who didn't already have a strong defensemen for Suter to play with, because even though Suter plays elite level defense, if he only puts up 25-30 points next season, he's not worth 7 million.
Not saying it will be this bad, but an example of a player people said would play just fine without his partner or play just as good when his partner's play suffered is Seabrook. Seabrook is called a top 10 defensemen by man in Keiths Norris year, he makes team Canada. However, now that Keith hasn't been so great over the past 2 seasons, Seabrook doesn't look like a number one defensemen at all, closer to an average number two.
Suter I still think is a number one defensemen but he's not better than Weber. No team is going to take Suter over Weber, that notion is a phenomenon only on these boards (And not shared by almost anyone involved in hockey). Nashville will sooner let Suter go than Weber, a hundred times out of a hundred.
You guys who claim Suter to be better than Weber are a bit nuts. Many experts (ie, guys who know more than you), consider Weber to be the best d-man in the league. Suter may be (and is) better at some things, but Ryan Suter, as good as his is, is not "better than Shea Weber".
Weber is more flashy and "broke out" in a bigger way then Suter did. Being Canadian also helps. But yes, I'm one of the people who think Suter is better then Weber (barely though, and for all intents and purposes, I would just list them as equal tbh). He's a top 5 dman for sure, and I would have him in my top 3. If Suter isn't worth $7 million, then there aren't many who are at all.

As a Preds fan I can tell you that Suter is definitely worth the $7mill. in my opinion he is the most positionally sound defender in the league most nights, yes even better then Weber. He won't put up the big points, but he will usually be the best defender on the team, and will probably be the best defender for whoever signs him.
Why the hell are people holding so called "flashiness" against player?
Weber is a game changer, just ask Nashville fans.
A player like Suter isn't flashy but that doesn't mean he's not just as effective as Weber. Flashiness has a tendency to make people **** their pants on HF.
Also, no one is disputing that Weber is a game changer nor are they holding flashiness against him.

Seabrook has been the Hawks best defenseman this season. You have no idea what you're talking about
