Interesting article about the death of the Quiet Room here:

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2012/...iet_room_myth/

And another article about how some teams (in this article it talks about the Flyers) pretty much have total disregard for head injuries in their players:

I don't think the hit was faked, the laying on the ice for almost ten minutes maybe was. Players play injured all the time. It actually looked more like a neck injury to me.

I think you're missing my point in an effort to be contrary. Did you look at those articles? The NHL's protocol was supposed to be that any player who sustains a hard hit to the head spends 15 minutes in the dressing room being evaluated by a doctor. This was heralded as a "caring change" (quote from our own GM) to prove that the NHL really is taking head injuries seriously. Smith's collision surely qualifies as a hard hit to the head. But he didn't even leave the ice. So he either milked it for a penalty or his team doesn't care about fully evaluating him after a possible head injury.

They need to bring back the Quiet Room and make sure that all teams follow the protocol if the NHL really cares about head injuries. It would protect players, AND prevent players from exaggerating head shots (because who would do that if they knew it would mean not playing for 15 minutes?). Win-win.

Much as I would like to see Sully get his name on the Cup, I really hope Philly continues the beatdown and sweeps the Pens.

Ok back to the game. I'm looking at the TOI's and I'm thinking that Trotz is holding back on Weber and Suter. I expected them to be playing about 5 more minutes a game.

Its not great hockey, but you are correct- INSANE and fun to watch. After having a heart attack watching the Preds, I am thoroughly enjoying just sitting back and enjoying the craziness!

In 7 periods of hockey, there have been 27 goals scored in this series- by contrast, 15 in 9 periods in Preds/Wings.

Also, Pittsburgh has allowed 16 goals in 7 periods- that is AWFUL with a capital A- we wouldn't give up that many in a 7 game series.....

Preds take note: that's how you score on a 5-3. We play our 5-3's WAAAY too high. We almost play it the same as a 5-4.

Glad that Philly is not afraid to play Cindy hard. Flyers seem to have gotten in the Pens head. Great to see some former Preds playing as high contributors. And as I type, another devastating hit delivered, this time by Schenn!

Hmm, i'd say
Letang > Kimmo
Voracek > Sully (major size mismatch)
Crosby >= Giroux

Crosby started the whole thing

Man, that has to be one of the most intense 1st periods I've seen in a long time, can't wait for the rest of this one.
