Jacob Trouba to me would be more valuable at this point to the Ducks ,but then again I have him on a pedestal.
I'm not as well versed/familiar with Forsberg as some of the other picks. Anybody have a break down of his play or an opinion on him?
I'll give one in a second...but I came to voice a concern first. i've been watching the U-18 tournament (apparently some HF posters saw Murray there...personal scouting?) to get some better ideas about some of these prospects...first of all, I don't know where these concerns about Dumba's game are coming from, he's phenomenal.
Second of all, it's of some concern that Collberg is so VASTLY outperforming FF. I mean I'm seeing what I saw of FF at WJC. All the upside. But he's still not finishing plays and these are weak teams they've been playing so far. You just gotta wonder now. Collberg has like 8 points in 2 games. Forsberg has 2 points in 2 games. That said, I still think Collberg is very one dimensional. Drives straight to the net and gets his goals with speed and strength. Kind of like Ovie without the good hands, vision. Not sure how it will translate at this level, still...head and shoulders above Forsberg right now.
That said, I'll combine my outlook from my now 7 games worth of watching FF. WJC+U-18. From what I've seen Forsberg has elite level tools. He's not the best skater, but he makes up for it in other areas in the game. I really like comparing FF to Corey Perry minus the mean streak, because their game is almost identical. FF uses the body to effectively control the puck, he has outstanding hands, vision, offensive creativity (really even in this tournament, the plays he attempts are nowhere near the same level as his teammates), he's great on the forecheck, great along the boards. The only issue is he seems to lack the experience and finesse to convert on his plays. That's not to say with some development he can't make it happen, but it's really going to take work from him. That's why I'd be worried if we took him. He's got a ton of upside, but he has to do what is necessary to reach the elite level of play that justifies a top 6 selection.
It's about pro projection, not what someone does now.
I fully agree but it's something to consider. Anaheim has a deep enough prospect pool to go for higher projections rather than prospects performing now. But another team would consider more...refined prospects in the off chance that he misses his projection. No prospect is guaranteed to hit his upside.
