The people don't benefit from that money being in someones bank account. They sure as hell do if it's being put back into public programs.
And what "progress" is that?

What the hell has Booker done that IMPROVED the City of Newark?

ANSWER : NOTHING.

He is just as guilty of putting money back in his pocket as JVB is. Both men are on the slimy-side, IMO.

They would never move the Devils back to CAA / Brendan Byrne / Izod. Would they?!

Aren't they committed to the lease anyway though?

The Devils are not going anywhere. The city would lose so much more than they are fighting for if the team left.

It would be a bad deal all the way around. Hell who knows how much longer JVB will be around anyway.

Right. They're not going anywhere. This certainly can't turn into a volatile situation.

Leases are never broken either. Historically in North America, professional sports teams have never relocated.

We are doing fine. Nothing to see here. Move on. All is fine & dandy!

Oh, and 24 months ago, Forbes magazine had us ranked #10 out of 30 NHL teams.

If leases were broken easily the Islanders would have left years ago

Wangman is committed to Long Island. He has never even thought about trying to break that lease, unlike our own Dr. McMullen for example who threatened to move 3 times.

Just look at all he has been trying to do in the 8 years he has owned the team: That on again/off again Litghthouse project. Wanting to at least sell them to people who would keep them in the area: Fred Ponzi Coupon and his desire to build an arena near CitiField or hand them off to Barclay's Center in Brooklyn etc.

NYI are a bad example.

Star Ledger sports columnist Steve Politti wrote a column that was in today's paper backing Vanderbeek.

I think Jeff's comments were somewhat tongue in cheek as a dig at Booker.

I read that. Needless to say I agreed with it in its entirety, very well written too.

If Wang had an out to break the lease to force their hand he would. He's not happy with the lease and would want anything to get out of it even if he didn't want to move

Owner needs to pay up and make good on that commitment to youth programs and more. It really isn't lots of money and if he can't follow through on that commitment then why in the heck would I want him as an owner of my favourite hockey team ? Honestly the best thing that could happen to the Devils is forgetting all about New Jersey and go and find an actual HOCKEY town that will love the team. I love my Devils but clearly New Jersey does not.

Nope, sorry.

I love how everyone who does not live here wants them to move.

Can't have them, deal with it.

As I see it, Booker is doing all this for political purposes, and comes across as a 13-year-old with a tantrum. Didn't he complain to the Star Ledger that he was denied Bruce Springsteen tickets because of his spat with JVB?

Hasn't there been a significant youth movement for hockey in Newark? They have a rink with the AmeraHealth Pavilion and a Newark high school team made the playoffs for the first time in decades. Not to mention all the community things Daneyko, Marshall and Driver do

Actually: pretty decent reduction in violent crimes, big cut into the city's deficit, increase in housing construction, eased up some regulations that made it tougher for people in Newark to get jobs, etc.

Knock the guy for the poor public reaction to this issue and stuff he's screwed up on, but "nothing" is a pretty silly thing to say.
