Something that baffles g2k.....

Yeah I know.....alot of things seem to baffle me...

Here's one. A new sponsor to name the Oilers rink.

It bothers me that an oil company doesn't step up.

You know? "Oil"............"Oilers"?

To me it's a no-brainer. I'm sure it's affordable and it's HUGE advertising. I was howling these sentiments before it was "Skyreach".

I know the names may not be too catchy. The Syncrude Center, The Esso Arena, The Suncor Coliseum. But it IS catchy that it's OIL......HUILE......CRUDE...............OILERS!

And it's a hell of alot better than "Rexall Coliseum"

P.S.

I'm sure Laforge has already pursued this. It's a no-brainer and he's pretty "on the ball".

Them Oil companys are FOOLS for not jumping on this.

I agree completely but unfortunately all those oil company fools live in Calgary.

I always thought it should be a toothpaste duel Crest Coliseum vs The Colgate Centre, but what do I know? Maybe Chicklets Center might be a little too gummy for hockey aficionados.

If Rexall ends up with the rights, I sure hope they don't call it Rexall Coliseum, Rexall Center rolls of the tongue alot easier.

Preperation H or Tampax can sponsor the rink for all I care, as long as the Oil get their $5 million bucks a year.

What happened to Ford? Weren't they considered the front-runner last summer? I was already writing up some "Ford Center" and Theo Fleury material.

It kinda surprises me that Rexall would have the cash to buy the naming rights... they're not that big, are they?

oil companies sell a commodity. Having your name on a building does nothing for the bottom line. The only comapnies that may benefit are the royalty trusts who are trying to get their name known ( ie - pengrowth)

As for rexall, I read somewhere whey they are now one of the largest drug distributors in north america. New management took over a few years ago and they have expanded very rapidly. I think it is a good fit.

A good nickname could be " The crack-house"

I think Tampax is better suited to one of our Floridian teams. The Tampax Bay Lightning is the perfect fit. And it even has a crude double entendre that will make people laugh...

Well look at GM place. We already knew what General Motors was. The Molson center? We know our beer. Air Canada.
