So what could the hip, announcer-friendly nickname be?

The drug store?
The pharmacy?
Hastings and Main?

Any other pharmaceutical references out there?

If it's Phamaceuticals....

Skyreach Center errr....I mean Rexall Colliseum could be nicknamed "<b>The Pill</b>" or "<b>The Asprin</b>" or..hahaha i don't know...Skyreach will look like a big huge pill now instead of a hockey puck!

i'll take a bow for that lame nickname

I think that Rexall is currently owned by the Katz corporation which is privately owned. Mr. Katz (can't remember his first name off hand) also controls the Medicine Shoppes as well and owns various other drugstore chains across North America. He is the richest man in northern Alberta and I think in the process of building a new 30,000 sq. ft. home hanging into the river valley in the neighbourhood of Crestwood. As a friend of mine likes to say (and is in a position to know) Calgary doesn't have more money than Edmonton it just has louder money.

Could you introduce me to some of that quiet money, so I can have a little good financial advice whispered into my eager ears - please?

Yes Mr. Katz is from Edmonton and he is the 10th richest man in Canada, not just Northern Alberta.

They had a whole article about him in the Journal about 2 or 3 months ago and it mentioned then that he would be interested in the naming rights to the coliseaum as a way to give back to the community.

Here is the link that shows him at number 10.

http://www.rich-*******s.com/d-RichLists.htm

The link doesn't work because you can't use that word in this forum but it is the opposite of a female dog so rich(word I can't use)s.com

He'd better be forking over some solid cash if he's going to give it a name that sounds like a retirement condo.

If he's that rich, why doesn't he join the ownership group.

like right now, The group will come pretty close to breaking even. if we can add an extra 10 million or so, then thats a bonus, it can up the budget and maybe allow us to through some more money into the team.

Some people might not know this but Katz Group is the largest drugstore retailer in Canada and the seventh largest in North America. It's a private company and revenues are estimated to be around $6 billion a year. Basicsally every drug store you see in Edmonton that isn't a London Drugs or Shoppers Drug Mart is owned by Katz Group.

They have been spending millions relaunching the Rexall name and there will be one opening downtown in Edmonton.

Yeah, I hear they have bought the old restaurant there on Jasper and about 120 St. and are going to turn it into their flagship store. This is very good news for the Oilers as this family has big money. My bad - I tried and tried to remember his first name but I am terrible at names. The Oil's press release says it is Darryl not Saul.

I'm still voting for

"The Drug Den"

<tasteless joke>

Which has roots going back to Grant Fuhr's days here...
