is buffalo a good trade partner

they have benched mckee for 3 games now. It is no secret that lowe luvs him. It was kevin who got mckee an invite to the olympic team trials in case foote got injured, mckee was his replacement.

Buffalo needs an enforcer and laraque is just wasting away on our fourth line. They both make 1.7 mill so salary is a wash.

If mckee rebounds in edmonton, comrie AND smith would be lowe's trading chips and we could end up with stud prospects and / or picks for that pretty easy.

I don't think BUF needs an enforcer as long as Andrew Peters is still with the team. Wasn't he leading the league in fighting majors (nine) so far this season?

But I'd definitely sign on for a McKee-Laraque swap.

Wasn't McKee the guy that was getting knocked down almost every shift he played against the Oil back in October?

Looking at their roster I'm pretty sure it was him, I wouldn't be interested but Lowe knows more about him than I ever will.

I hope Laraque isn't the bait but I wouldn't be surprised to see McKee here.

Good call, that kid actually fought Georges here (he lost though) and he had a really good tilt that made the highlight reels just a couple weeks ago, can't remember who it was against though.

You guys can have Satan for free if you want him. Of course that's if you want a worthless loaf who does nothing but mess up your team day in and day out.

Guys worth pickin up from Buffalo (in no order):

J.P. Dumont
Miro (yes, i know, big contract)
Curtis Brown (kinda iffy on him)
Dmitri Kalinin
Max Afinogenov
Marty Biron
Andy Delmore (unlikely)
Jay McKee (iffy on him too)
and of course
Tim Connolly

Highly doubt we could get a guy like Ryan Miller or Drury of course, so didn't list that kinda guy.

You forgot Mika Noronen who I would definitely take over Martin Biron, maybe even over Ryan Miller.

Not exactly sure we could get him either, left him off because Marty is the most likely of the Buffalo 3 we could pick up IMO.

How about adding Tallinder as well, big at 6ft4 good skater cheap and top 4 d-man potential(close to it I guess he's kind of in the in-between stage like Semenov)

Buffalo and Edmonton are not good trading partners because both teams are in similar situations. Both teams are loaded with second and third line forwards, but need quality defensemen.

The two biggest interests that the Sabres would have on the Oilers are Brewer and Smith. But that doesn't make sense for Edmonton, who would be further weakening a thin position.

Same situation in Buffalo. Weak defense would only get worse without McKee.

I don't think an EDM-BUF trade is right for either team.

Connolly, Mckee and Peters for Laraque, Horcoff and Ferguson. Kind of a sideways move, but a change of scerey might work for all parties involved.

If EDM-BUF traded, it would have to be a sideways move and work financially for both clubs. I can't see Buffalo trading McKee without getting Smith or Brewer back, which throws off the deal you mentioned because Edmonton would be giving too much.

Would have to be more like Satan, McKee, Peters for Laraque, Brewer, Rita. Something like that might work.

But again, I can't see these two teams as trading partners right now.

I'll have to agree with Elphy...land Noronen. This guy will be stud keeper.

Laraque
Rita
Chimera

--for--

Noronen
McKee
Boulton (to offset the loss of BG).

Buffalo would not make that trade. It's fair enough, but we already have way too many forwards and not enough quality defensemen. And McKee is one of our few physical d-men. Pretty fair deal, but won't work for Buffalo.

Well, you could look at it this way, then, if what you're saying is true (I don't know much about the Sabres' needs at all) - Oilers trade Smith to Sabres for goalie (Biron or Noronen, or whoever - Sabres seem to have gobs of young promising goalies). then the Oilers trade Comrie to get back that defensive help they'd be giving up with Smith going to Buffalo.

Does that work better?

Bart

Just being picky here, but I would get the D-depth first, then trade for the goalie; the second a team sees us without Smith, they will ask for the moon for their D-men because they know we need it.

I like a lot of Buffalo's dmen - Kalinin and McKee especially. But Sabot55 brings up a good point in that Buffalo can't afford to lose any dmen in the deal.

I think if these teams were to deal, then it would have to involve a third team which would be willing to trade defense for forwards. One team that comes to mind is Calgary, but unless it was Chimera, Horcoff or Rita, I couldn't see many Oiler players ending up in Calgary.
