Intentionally smash another player's head into the glass: Get fined $2,500.
Anyone see something wrong with this picture?
While I agree that it sends a stupid message, from what I understand, $2,500 is the maximum fine allowed under the CBA. So that's about as high as it's ever going to be (well at least until the summer I'd imagine).
Did Cassie Campbell interview Boyle on CBC? I think Giannone interviewed Dubinsky at the bench before game 2? I saw Brian Hayward working between the benches for NBC. Was it with NBC?
NEW YORK (April 16, 2012) -- Ottawa Senators forward Zenon Konopka has been fined $2,500, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and his club fined $10,000 for Konopka's conduct prior to Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarter-Final at New York on Saturday. April 14, the National Hockey League announced today.
Konopka was fined for his verbal abuse directed at a New York Rangers player conducting a live television interview nearby during pre-game warm-ups.
The Konopka fine money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund, while the club fine goes to the NHL Foundation.

"He didn't get injured so no suspension"

I don't understand why the league fine is capped at $2,500? NHL'ers make a lot less than other athletes and i guarantee if fines go up, dirty **** will go down.
The NHLPA would have to agree to an increase in predetermined fines. What reason would they have to agree to an increase? If the goal is to curb dirty play, suspensions hit players hardest. A guy making a million dollars per year loses $25k on a two game suspension and has to miss games. That hurts more than a $10k fine.
I continue to be amazed at the NHL. Every time I think they hit a new low they manage to surprise me. They are Rapidly becoming comedy gold. It's like they are seeking out new levels of stupidity and incompetence.
Not sure what sort of "message" this is supposed to send to either side..It just tells Ottawa they can get away with whatever they want and the most that will happen is they'll lose 30 minutes-worth of pay. And it doesn't appease the Rangers since a silly fine doesn't even anything up.
