We couldn't play a game against Tucker without him trying to take someone out at the knees or throwing a flying elbow or blindside hit. He was a very dirty player.

When he got to the Leafs maybe not so much--but I remember him and Avery going at it and as far as dirty Tucker made Avery look like a choirboy--never saw too many dirty hits from Sean--now other stuff that's another story. Sean knew how to get under people's skin. Alfie's hit on Tucker--all I can say is big ****ing deal. Karma coming around.

I'm not pleased how the Senators ratcheted up **** the last game but Alfie to me has always been a classy player--someone I wouldn't have minded being on our team at least a few years ago. One of my favorite non-Rangers.

couldn't agree more. the problem with snapshots of moments like that is the lack of context. before darcy took that hit, he was pulling a lot of cheap **** in that game and the games before. darcy was one of the most classless players who ever played the game, and i have a hard time feeling sympathy for a guy on the receiving end of dirty plays he made a career of doing.

Come on man, you're doing the exact same stuff that we get pissed at other fanbases for doing. 15 years down the road, we're going to be saying that Hagelin was a real class act, an honest hockey player, and then someone is going to post a video of his hit on Alfy and just say "no..."?

Like others have said, Alfy has made mistakes in his career and done stupid **** (who hasn't?) He's still a tremendous player, an honest player, and (from all appearances) a great ambassador off the ice. Hope he's okay and plays again this series.

You picked out two incidents from an NHL career that spans more than 1200 games. Neither of those are indicative of the type of player or person Daniel Alfredsson is.

As a Leaf fan with no rooting interest (other than perhaps a suspension of all play and no awarding of the Stanley Cup whatsoever) I've been watching the level of violence and headhunting in every series ratchet up as the refs have no idea what to let go any more. It's sad, and someone's going to get seriously hurt. Not fake-concussion until the suspension is announced hurt (See Allfredsson, Daniel, Schenn, Brayden, etc) but seriously hurt.

Good luck against the Sens tonight.

(Ok, maybe I have a slight rooting interest. )
I agree--the league has no clue how to handle this. Shanahan had a golden opportunity to send a message about premeditated muggings (pre-emptive strikes) and pretty much let Carkner off the hook and it's not like Carkner is an important piece of the Senators puzzle. Suspending him for 5 or 10 or even the duration of the playoffs would have sent a message that players (especially known fighters) can't just jump players--that it wouldn't be tolerated. Instead we're likely to see this again because now we have a precedent.
