Jordan Staal

"Have heard from multiple people Staal not content to remain in current role much longer. He could be No 1 center in a lot of cities."

https://twitter.com/#!/alanrobinson22

From Allan Robinson's twitter.

With the Pens on the brink of elimination and not making it past the 2nd round three years in a row, changes are likely.

Staal has one year left at a 4 mil caphit. It's not farfetched to think Staal will wait until next summer's free agency to see what teams will offer him. My guess would be much more than we can afford.

What would you offer for him if he's made available this summer?

Top 6 RW or top 4 Shutdown D-man. We're looking to retool, not rebuild with a package of futures.

He should sign close to home with a team that already chants "Jordan's better"

I can see a deal between Ducks and Pens. Ducks need a C, Pens could use a long term winger for Crosby.

Gorges? I mean, top 4 shutdown D-man is what you asked for. He's like a #3.

I think he puts them over the top and adds some grit to the first line with more talent.

I love Iggy, but if we're doing a one for one swap, management would probably want someone younger.

For one year, and due a new deal at the same time as Getzlaf and Perry? You better be thinking Palmieri+Lydman. Ryan isn't going for that.

Not sure how I'd feel about it, but just to gauge value something around Lupul?

If he only has a year left, that will decrease his value for trades as well. Don't see as high a value as some do, especially if he wants to try out free agency. A signed extension that's a different matter.

You realize the same core won a cup at a younger age right? Iginla isn't needed. They do a bobby ryan deal before iginla.(not saying it would happen, just saying more appealing and closer).

Just saw that, I never said 1-1 but I don't think the flames as much as staal also only has 1 year left.

We'd be looking for a bit more grit on the backend, imo. Michalek, when on his game, is similar in skillset but with a better breakout pass.

Use him to revamp the blueline.

However the few potential players I'd be interested in are likely untouchable. Other than perhaps SJ (who I don't think need another center), Winnipeg or Washington can really afford to move these Dmen. Then how much interest is there in Staal (a center) coming back. Nashville already has two expensive centers in Fisher/Legwand. Same with Chicago (not that we could actually get Seabrook).

But unless you're getting a great Dman coming back, it would be easier to move him for a goal scoring forward to play with Sid.

These are the sort of players I'd be looking at. We'd most likely have to add depending on who we're talking about.

Weber - not sure how these teams are as trade partners
Suter (as a pending UFA doesn't make sense unless an extension is signed)
Burns - not sure how these teams are as trade partners
Seabrook - not sure how these teams are as trade partners
Bogosian
Girardi
M Staal
Hedman
Myers
Cowen
Alzner

Could we work something out around say Staal for Ryan. I know we have to add but what is the other piece?

Agreed and fair enough. You should be looking for a top pairing guy then. Gorges is a #3(#2 this year on habs) and if you want a little better, maybe a #2 is more your thing?

Too much.

For us: Pacioretty is about equal to Staal and Gorges>>Martin. Again, that's for us, others may not agree.
