Can't some things just die? I wonder where they'll have teams.
Why? Aren't you excited for the potential AAHL and FHL merger talk that will begin happening when both leagues "start up" for the season and realize they need teams to function?
This has been up for months. The AAHL isn't happening.
They were going to bring it back to be a feeder league for the new NPHL, but the NPHL has been scraped, therefore this league's return has been scraped.

Is it official that the NPHL isn't happening? I thought with that lofty can't fail business plan the commish posted on the site it was a sure thing...The site still seems to be up, so i'm wondering were this info came from. The AAHL does on the other hand to be aborted for a second time.
The AAHL's website says "New Look, New Attitude" but it appears to have the same look and same attitude. Although I'm hopeful that the only way to go is up, it doesn't seem like that's going to get off the ground again.
Their website looks healthier than the AAHL's ... but stay away from their Facebook page.
The NPHL is a trainwreck. The commissioner says they're trying for a 2012 launch still, but his #2--who went to all the cities and did most of the legwork, and basically built up the Roanoke buzz singlehandedly--says it's gonna be just about impossible because--surprise surprise!--someone* convinced the serious investors to consider other leagues.
*--I think I know who this someone is--and it is an actual person, and not just an excuse--and if I'm correct it's the funniest bloody thing
Oh nothing really. Just the league staff getting into arguments with each other via the page. And the commish posting stuff like "Call me, Mike." instead of messaging him from his personal account or actually just calling him.

If you have a look at their Facebook page, and the most recent article posted on the NPHL website, it's pretty evident that they're not coming back. Especially when you read things like this in that article:
Quote:
The NPHL was fueled by the passion of the true hockey fans. The NPHL and its proposed teams were built on communities and the spirit of the hockey fan.
I think Roanoke and Winston-Salem would be a great fit for the SPHL, both were among the franchises listed on the NPHL site though I think both were already part of the Southern League, maybe a 2nd try?
Put this way--they sought the advice of two cofounders of the ECHL... one was helpful, but the other, formerly associated with another league of note, steered them toward another league. Which league, I'm not sure--I have "no F"ing clue, to be honest--I wouldn't be surprised if it was the guy'S most recent league of note.

Them's some good clues. I think I know now... is it the Swedish Elite League?

w-s has had the thunderbirds, cyclones (in the SPHL),icehawks, mammoths, and some more im pretty sure i can not remember..hey heres a thought maybe w-s isnt a hockey market! -roanoke hasnt had a team since the vipers in the UHL which laster 1 season but the express had a great following so maybe it could work.

You're on the right track, if my suspicions are correct...

I'm not sure whether it's W-S that's the problem but the way they've been treated in the past (even by the SPHL and it's predecessors).
St. Pete/Winston-Salem Parrots (ACHL) - Hey we put an A team in the back yard of an NHL team and it didn't do well, can you be our backup plan? Fold after year one.
Winston-Salem T-birds (SEHL) - Hey we need a 4th team ... also you'll be without a nickname and go by the Winston-Salem Hockey Club until partially through the season. You didn't make the playoffs, FOLD!
Winston-Salem Polar Twins (SPHL) - We're gonna do this for real this time! We're not going to just up and leave after year one! Fold after year one.
Winston-Salem Cyclones (SPHL) - We're gonna use the marketing phrase "We're not just blowing through town" because nothing bring success like referencing past failures. Team folds after 2 seasons.
The Parrots, T-birds, and Polar Twins were in back to back years with a two year gap before the Cyclones. The Parrots and T-birds were kind of thrown together quickly and weren't built to last. The Polar Twins ended up being a "Waronker Special" after David Waronker owned pretty much the entire league. Every team he touched is now gone: Miami, Orlando/Florida, Jacksonville, W-S, Asheville, Macon, Lakeland (provided start up costs but didn't own), and Alabama (provided start up costs but didn't own). Waronker spread himself too thin and it ended up burning a lot of people.
Winston-Salem may work it will just take a dedicated owner/ownership group (most likely local) and a solid staff.
