I don't think Staal for Ryan makes sense from Anaheim's point of view, they still have the same problem as before just they've swapped their 2nd line winger for a 2nd line centre. They need to add a good 2nd line centre to play with Ryan.

I wouldn't trade Staal. He's quickly becoming the new Ron Francis.

Since we are throwing random thoughts out what about

Staal and 1st rd to Columbus for Jack Johnson and 2nd overall pick

Maybe the pens add a pick or spec?

He definitely brings a two-way game, but is not and will never be near Francis' equal in terms of playmaking savvy and vision.

That's very much true. And also, I don't think Pens need more offense.

Lydman + 2012 1st?

Staal not signed and not elite center, he's a #2 center or poor man's #1 center. Keep the pick, Timmins hit a homerun get true elite center

Lydman's basically Michalek light and that 1st isn't going to help us next year.

Wow fair point. I didn't realise that Staal was due to be a UFA after next season. That would give me pause.

Funny... that didn't seem to diminish Burn's value when he (and a 2nd) were moved for Seto, Coyle and a 1st.

Staal won't have quite the same value, but if it's true that he wants a shot at being a #1 (personally think he's more of a great #2), his value is still tremendous as long as he's willing to sign an extension after the trade.

One year of Staal wont get you CBJ 1st+

IMO the Iginla for Staal deal could work for both teams. It doesnt matter what the age difference is .. It all about contract length.

Rangers and Carolina could also be good destinations since he has a brother playing in each.

You wouldn't trade for Staal if you didn't think you could sign him. I don't think that's going to be an issue. Maybe a conditional pick going one way or the other if it is.

He's a #2 center. He did that job very well during Crosby's absence. He brings some added value for his defense and pk ability.

I'd want a very good top 2 line winger or a big, physical young D-Man in return if they move him. Not really interested in the key part of the deal being futures. No high draft pick as the key part of the deal for example.

You mention 1 year of staal lessens his value, how could you not say the same about 1 year of Iginla?

Staal has tons of value bottom line

What about Staal for Jack Johnson and Colton Gillies? Pitt can add if needed?

Like above poster said, whoever trades for Staal shouldnt have any trouble signing him

He said that teams that expect to sign him will be the only ones looking to make the trade. Big difference.

It is the same for Iginla too. With Staal people see his age and assume he will be with the new club for 5-10 more years.. I just said that Iginla for Staal makes sense for both clubs.

Iginla gets a shot at cup .. Calgary starts retooling. add conditional picks incase one or both bolt after 1 season.

I think Staal just wants a top 2 line center role and a raise from his 4 million salary. I don't think he'd be overly hard to sign if you give him those 2 things.

Iginla would be a perfect fit in Pitt, but not for 7 mil cap hit and being the return for Staal, especially when i think they would have a great chance of signing him next summer on a descent deal

Yes and ALOT of team are going to want a 24yr old 2 way center who just starting to reach his offensive potential, and is 6'4 as well
