Cap Space: $13,000,000, last years was $15,000,000 plus the Cap might go up
Thoughts?
Klein is a ufa in 2013.I can't see Snow trading a core player on a cheap contract and the main return, is only under team control for 1 season.
Also,I doubt the isles offer Semin such a huge contract. They would be more likely to offer a reclaimation project like Huseluis or Penner, $2.5m on a 1-2 yr deal.

Nashville will not overpay for an inconsistent, potential "one big season" player. I also doubt that Poille trades Klein, who plays 20 minutes a night, with the possibility of losing Suter.
You do NOT want Foster. He is the worst player in the NHL now that Lebda is gone.
Scouting Report
Assets Has good size and a lot of offensive ability. Good vision for the man advantage unit. Displays the poise, positioning know-how and skill-set to log plenty of minutes on the ice.
Flaws Needs to tighten up his defensive-zone coverage in order to maximize his potential at the highest level. Also needs to keep working on his strength.
Career Potential Offensive defenseman with all-around upside.

Examples? Evgeny Dadanov is in their system, he looked good with Florida last year.
Maybe Dadonov would be such an example.
But I'm thinking more along the lines of Greg Hofmann, Victor Rask or better yet, Dan Biega.
To be honest, a deal like this only makes sense if the Isles are convinced about a kid they KNOW will be at 8.
I still kind of think it's too much in favor of Carolina as McBain is not necessarily a future stud, but the top 5 this year is looking good and Grabner could still end up being a long-term answer as a 25 goal guy.
i don't see jamie mcbain as the guy to give up 4 draft slots for but i'm not inside garth's head (thank goodness) and have no idea if he has some kid ranked high that no one else does.
I lmao on the main trade board.A leafs fan proposed the following trade:
Connoly,Lombardi,Armstrong,Komosarek,D'Amigo,2nd
for
NYI 1st,Moulson
My response-
Isles wouldn't deal their 1st alone for that group of scraps.
Connoly-ufa in 2013,overpaid at $4.75m.Nielsen scored about 10-12 pts more,making $550,000.
Lombardi-ufa in 2013,3rd liner making $3.5m.scored 18 pts.
Armstrong-ufa in 2013,making $3m.Scored 3 pts
Komosarek-3rd pairing defenseman,making $4.5m
D'Amigo-isles have a bunch of prospects.No interest in D'Amigo or that 2nd
Oh, does Toronto have players who should embarrassed by their production.
I mainly agree, but don't forget once again that Connoly missed several games like he always does so the Nielsen comparison is unrealistic. I wouldn't take Connoly just because of his Lafontainess... but a bad comparison with Nielsen nonetheless

What is unrealistic about comparing Connolly's production and salary ,with Frans production and salary?
Connolly was their #1 center, playing alongside Kessel. The fact that the isles 2nd line center outscored him by 10-12 pts, while making about 1/9th of Connolly's salary,is funny imo.
Connolly's disappointing production and injuries are nothing new .
I've Been thinking about Petrov and his future contract if he indeed come across the pond this summer. He will have to sign a ELC which is a very structured Salary and Bonus levels. I would assume he would get max guarenteed salary of 900,000. After that is the bonus money. The bonus' are the question.
Tavares got $2,850,000 in bonus' for a Cap Hit of $3,750,000
Nino got $1,925,000 in bonus' for a Cap Hit of $2,795,000
Nelson got $1,925,000 in bonus' for a Cap Hit of $2,825,000
Strome got $850,000 in bonus' for a Cap Hit of $1,775,000 (925,000 Base Salary)
Kabonov got no bonus' for a Cap Hit of $900,000
Will Petrov be paid like Tavares, Nino and Nelson? Or like Strome, Kabanov, DeHaan or Nilsson?

guessing between what Strome and Kabanov got. maybe no bonus, in lieu of a one-way contract? not saying that he's earned a one-way, but it might take some concession on Garth's part, to get him over here...

The current CBA has made the first contract a prospect recives from the team to be a standard ELC, that wont change. Its a two way, waiver exempt contract in which players make up to a max 900,000 in the NHL. I'm not sure what the standard pay for the AHL is. Teams can then put incentive bonus' into the contract to bring up the value of the deal.
IMO I think Petrov will get a contract between what Tavares made in his ELC and Nelson's. Just Like with Nelson they have to entice him to stay. I also think his High Cap hit is what will allow Snow to put Nino in the AHL to let him develope more. Hence is why I think Petrov with get a "Snowball's Promise" that he will be on the opening day roster.

Tyler Bozak was Kessel's center for all but a few games. Connolly spent nearly the entire season on the 3rd and 4th lines.
so far these are the players that are locked up for next season
my proposal
resign Jurcina (#7 dman) effective when he doesn't get too much ice time
resign PaP (top 9 RW) letting him go would be a huge step backwards
sign Chris Kelly (2nd/3rd line center) great leadership, stop gap for the centers in b port and juniors
sign Gilroy (#6 dman) adds speed, size and skill to our blue line
sign Wideman (#4 dman) adds skill and offense from our blue line
sign Kuba (#5 dman) adds size to our blue line
sign Jagr (top 9 RW) offers tons of options for line combinations during scoring slumps, good leader ship
sign Knuble (4th line right wing) leadership, size and grit for the 4th line
Resign Pap 4 years 16M....Hopefully or less
Trade Reasoner to Toronto for Matthew Lombardi
resign Haley
Use Ullstrom on the 4th line
Sign Greg Campbell
D
Sign Jason Garrison 5years 25million
Sign Barrett Jackman 3 years 13 Million
Sign Cory Sarich 3 years 11million
sign Stu Bickell ,Dylan Reese or John Scott as 7th Dman
Let all the kids on D marinate with more time in the AHL. Also let all the forwards stay in the AHL and use them as call ups. Teams like Detroit and the Devils seem to do things right and let there kids spend a little extra time in the minors, they all need to develop man strength......

It's hard to forecast this, as a lot of guys like Jagr, Wideman, Barrett Jackman and their likes will likely stay place. The type of players that will sign here would be guys that are more likely coming from non-winning situations, of course in my model down below I am guilty of the same thing assuming we could sign Tootoo and Carle.
Sign PAP 4 years 18 mil
Resign Reese
Sign Jokinen 3 years 15 mil
Sign Tootoo 4 years 12 mil
Sign Carle 4 years 20 mil
We just spent more money than we spent in the past 10 years, but... it is a fantasy perspective.
I still fire Capuano and hire Craig MacTavish and let him bring in his own guy.

Interesting you picked Douglas Murray, he loves Long Island, know a few of his friends from his days at Portledge High School. He probably is a player that would want to come here.
If they bring back Suter and Weber we should make a hard push for Kevin Klein, the guy has played great this postseason and is just the right defenseman to pair with Streit. I know he is important to their team but they have a lot of defenseman.

Would love Douglas Murray here as I fully believe he would re-sign here if we acquired him, but I would not give up a prospect like Pedan for him.
