AHL playoff question

Don't have to like 2-3 format but understand the need for it.

Question
Does the team that won home ice keep last change for game five even though it is played in the other teams barn?

Interesting question, but my suspicion is that no, the home team will get the last change. I don't have proof or a link, but that would be hard to manage throughout the series if they tried to change it.

What potential game 5 would be played on the team without home ice's home rink?

Thanks GMR. I hate to see a team play the whole season to get home ice advantage and then give it away because Disney on Ice or the Circus is booked.

That would have happened to the UWM basketball team this year if they got home court for the Horizon League Tournament. Disney on Ice was booked for I think four or five days at US Cellular Arena. I would have been pissed if I was a player or coach and couldn't get the home crowd advantage because of some stupid event like that.

Don't most teams draw crap in the playoffs anyway though? Especially the first round? The playoffs aren't a money maker. In the E this is the case because of a quick turnaround and comp tickets really don't exist. I've heard some cases though of season ticket holders getting first round tickets with their season seats.

Yeah most teams don't draw in the playoffs because of a quick turnaround and a lot of tickets are for groups. It's hard to get a group together in less than a week.

I don't know how many teams in the AHL give away comp tickets, I know the Admirals don't and won't no matter what.

Also, it's more than just having the crowd on your side. Not having to travel, not having to sleep in a hotel etc.

Perhaps/ I don't really follow the NHL but I was watching ESPN this morning and they noted of 25 playoff games so far 17 road teams have won.

ADK announcer reported Norfolk chose to open at home, AHL teams can choose first two at home or to close on the road. Haven't seen that anywhere else though.

This is what happens in the E. Though there is a certain mile radius apart they have to be. It's like 250 miles or something. If they are within that distance it's a 2-2-1.

But if their arena was booked the day of a Game 5 then they had no choice really.

-Bob is a good guy though, ADK fans are lucky. Great announcing style!

The AHL was tweeting that information a lot on Sunday and Monday. If 2-2-1 wasn't an option for whatever reason, the higher seed had the choice of the first two or last three at home.

does the AHL re-seed after the 1st round of the playoffs like the NHL? or is it a bracket set up like in NCAA basketball?
