but since it's torres on hossa, and he went off on a stretcher i expect he'll get something ridiculous like 20 games carrying over to next year... shanahan has been a disaster, and with all the **** going on with the randomness of playoff suspensions... expect the ridiculous
I'm not willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't targeting the head because he's targeted the head many times before. When you're a repeat offender you lose that presumption.
I completely disagree on the jumping. When I was taught as a kid, were were always told NOT to jump. Feet down, head square.
No reason to jump except to explode on a guy, and that's not needed.
Doesn't look like he's targeting the head to me. Just looked like he went on a tear, got too into it and exploded with the jump. It's dirty, and since Hossa's hurt he'll get suspended (which is bull), but it's not really all that bad. Neal's hit was worse.

I agree with everything you said, except I think the suspension lengths across the board should be higher. Torres should get 3 games, Asham 7, Neal 5, Weber 3, etc. That would really help clean up the dirty hits.

i think the entire criteria has to be overhauled... i mean, i have much less of a problem with Torres because i think it's still a hockey play... and play that broke the "leaving your feet" rule, so you get 1 game.
Neal was by far the most egregious in my opinion...
Weber not getting anything was the biggest joke...
Asham, I can understand giving a game or 2 for the punch to the back of the head, but i dislike the match penalty for taking out a guy who just laid out (illegaly) one of your teammates...

From League official: The referees did not see the Torres hit on Hossa hence no penalty called...only saw him hit the ice...

Im just telling you what official told me..it is possible to be right there and look away for split sec and miss...or maybe just covering up
After being carried off the United Center ice on a stretcher and going to the hospital, Blackhawks winger Marian Hossa has now left the hospital according to the Chicago Tribune.
Tribune reporter Brian Hamilton wrote the following: "At 10:05 p.m., Hossa was wheeled out of the emergency room exit at Northwestern Memorial hospital to a waiting Porsche. He got into the car on his own power. He had his hand to his forehead as he was wheeled out."
Oh boy...after the "Smith was diving/faking" allegations on the main board last game...how soon until the "Hossa faking it" posts start cropping up?
To me I have no problem with the Asham cross-check. That's a 2 minute penalty for crosscheck, but that's it. But the punches when he was down, here is no justification for that.
And in actual game action, Boedker wins it for the Yotes.
if it was a pat kaleta hit... we'd all be saying
"it was a split second play, the puck was there and then gone"
"he was bracing for impact"
"the point of contact was shoulder and upper chest"

It looked like the head to me. But you're probably right...bias affects us all.
However, I'm more concerned about the stupidity as Afino put it. Things like Kaleta's headbutt (which nobody here tried to defend), which is where I put some of the antics that's gone on (namely Weber, Carkner, and Asham).

I'd like to think I wouldn't. I try to remain consistant on that topic, something I'm sorta passionate about.
I'm rooting for Phoenix in this series, but Torres has to go for like 10 games.
Not because this hit was so bad (it wasn't, it was just a hockey play gone wrong), even though it was a clear hit to the head and a possible charge, but because the guy now has quite a history of cheap shots, late hits and suspensions.
And an extra game because he completely sucked as a Sabre.

I see your point until that. Principle point of contact is the upper chest and jaw.
The hit doesn't actually look *too* bad at game speed, but when you take into account how Torres launches himself into the hit (impact isn't what forces his feet in the air), the principle point of contact including the head, the end result, and Raffi's history of this type of play, it's hard not to see games on games for this.
On NHL network, Paul Maurice had an interesting take on the Torres hit. Paraphrasing; "There will be times when we end up debating (a hit) whether it was from the blindside or if player turned towards the boards, etc. Those things will happen in our violent sport.....
.... but once you leave your feet, you're making a decision to put the person your hitting in a vulnerable postion. To me thats a suspendable play."
Thats pretty much the essence of what he was saying.
