Orpik is gone. If the rumors were true about a players meeting and temporary captain in Sid's absence, Orpik would likely be a guy who'd pull that ****.
I said we should trade the ***hat in January and I was laughed out of the forum.
If he is traded, I think we have a fair idea that his attitude has been less than ideal. Actions will speak louder than rumor ever could.
I mean honestly, if the Pens didn't have that meeting, why did they care so much? The team went well above and beyond in their response to what amounted to trivial gossip. It hit a nerve, on some level.
EDIT: And if the Pens are even considering trading Letang, they've lost their god**** minds.
If this is true, I see it being Staal. I really dont think they move Orpik.
The wild card would be if someone offers a HUGE deal for Malkin. Like If the Oilers offered RNH, Hall, Schultz,Smid
and the first overall. I'm not saying they would. You couldnt pass that over.

Woah woah woah, let's just chill out a bit here. Let's face facts: We don't know squat.

I said in another thread that moving Orpik might have a positive effect on the locker room and I still stand by it. He comes across as one of those guys that is a bit of a chore to be around. Of course that's just complete speculation, but it's just a feeling I get. The "I'm a hardass that holds everyone accountable" act gets real old when you're not pulling your weight anymore.
If there was a locker room leader of dissent, it's Orpik no doubt in my mind, zero accountability and always passing the buck. Good quote though so media likes him.
Don't worry only a moron would trade Letang. No GM would trade away a young, norris caliber dman who can anchor a defense for 10+ years. Does Rossi actually think people will believe the crap that he comes up with? If you're going to make stuff up, at least make it reasonable. Like, saying the Pens want to trade Staal for a top-line winger makes sense. This makes absolutely no sense.
If Steve Tambellini mentions to Rey that he thinks Letang — with his smooth skating and long hair — would look good making end-to-end rushes in Edmonton blue white and orange and asks Shero to look over the Edmonton roster and think about the first overall pick ...
You don't label any player as off limits unless he is a generational talent. Letang is not a generational talent. Especially if the Pens think Morrow can make the jump next season (don't flame me, I said if the PENS think that, not me), they might consider such a move.
The obvious problem with this is that is with both Malkin and Crosby currently under contract, the Penguins main objective has to be to build a team that can win now. Certainly, Letang easily could be a big part of a team built to do that. If the return for him isn't expected to become significant contributors until after it becomes likely (probably during the year we have exclusive renegotiation rights with Geno) we lose one of those two stars, then it makes no sense to trade such a valuable player.

Well, to be fair, I should point out that when I traded in my 2000 Accord a few months ago, I made it sound like a ****ing Bugatti Veyron.

If only Pens could acquire Subban, Burrows, Marchand and other significant trolling players and become even more hated.
Subban is like Letang to MTL fans, a non-starter to any deal. I actually kind of like Subban, bit of a guilty pleasure.
Lapierre.
The Canucks actually used to ice a lineup like what you speak of ("what do you mean used to!!!?!?!?!"). At one point, Ruutu, Cooke, Burrows and Kesler (when Kesler was still an agitator) all shared the same practice rink.
True. I have no idea what happened with that whole ordeal.
What I am saying is that in Orpik we have a problem. Based off of numerous media quotes and his generally snarky attitude. Today he said "20 guys need to be better in here." No Orpik - YOU need to be better. He has enough there to worry about to keep him busy for a while.
He's not the leader of this team. He's not even the leader of the defense. I never see him poke his head up with snarky comments when the team is doing well. It's always negative.
It doesn't take a leader to berate the troops...any idiot can do that.

I don't know why Brooks even has Alternate Captain Status. I would rather give it to Letang.
BTW. I think Brooks Orpik can go and **** off for all I care.
A player saying everyone on the team needs to be better when they're down 0-3 in a playoff series is now considered a "snarky comment." I think we're reaching critical mass on these boards people.
Don't let the username fool you I'm not happy with Orpik either but some of the baseless stuff on this page about him is just ridiculous. He's "snarky" because he doesn't give canned answers to reporters and he apparently conspired to stage a team mutiny earlier in the year. Go ahead and rip his play. I'll be right there with you, but don't just make stuff up because you're in a bad mood. You come off incredibly foolish.
I probably would do Staal for Luongo.......I'm sure we can get something solid out of Fleury to a team like Columbus like a 2nd overall pick.
Why on earth would you do that? Fleury and Luongo have the same playoff consistency "issues". Vancouver, despite having a lineup that is every bit as dangerous as ours, has yet to win a cup and have pulled Luongo several times for Schneider in the playoffs. So you would be trading a very valuable asset in Staal to get a goalie that is arguably better than Fleury but has playoff consistency issues. And then you'd flip our already good goalie for a 2nd overall pick that you hope is as good or better than Staal?
So you have traded Staal (a 2nd overall pick) AND Fleury (a 1st overall pick) for Luongo and a 2nd overall. To me that's a terrible trade.
