Yeah and then you'll have a few years of decent contracts until you're so top heavy you can't sign anyone of note. I won't give you projections on your own players I'll just give Anaheim as an example. I'll give how much each player makes now and how much they could make on their new contracts

Getzlaf 5.5/6-7
Perry 5.5/6-7
Ryan 5.5
Hiller 4.5/5
Beachemin 3.4
Fowler 1/3,5-4
And ducks fans want to add Suter or Parise at 7.5. That would be at best about 30 million locked up in 7 players.

You gotta consider that stockpiling star talent will have cap implications.

Jones looks like a man-child out there. That bomb he had yesterday against Canada was just sick.

Could easily be the best defender drafted since 2003 when Weber and Suter were both drafted.

This. It's premature, but when I see him in his own zone, he looks a lot like Pronger. More so than recent prospects who have been graced with that comparison. Once he has the puck and starts moving he becomes Scott Niedermayer. That transition alone makes my jaw drop almost every time. So much poise, so smart, so strong...I just...I've never been more impressed with a prospect pre-draft and it's not even his draft year yet.

After watching the Canada-USA U18 game, Jones looks like he's NHL ready (1st Viewing FYI). During the game it was brought up that he can apply for exceptional status to the NHL. Going somewhat OT, I think it would be good to see guys that are "ahead of their time" (comparable to kids the same age) such as Jones & McDavid in the league at an earlier point. However this would have to depending solely on the players decision and would have rules so that teams can't 'cheat' the system. The player himself would have to apply for exceptional status to be viewed by the league. If granted by the league, the team which the player goes to would HAVE TO stay with the NHL team for the first season, after which the team may decide to send the player back to major junior or semi-pro if the player wasn't Canadian. Just a random thought I'd throw out there, and I'm hoping someone else thinking the same thing might throw up ideas.

Going back to the topic of Jones, he will definitly be a player in the league one day, great combination of size and skill. Almost reminds me of a forward that is equally as good on defense. I can see him being equally as good as a forward as he is on defense

Yeah, the way he can rush with the puck and his frame is jaw dropping. Big, mobile, good hockey sense, hard shot, whats not to like.

If he were available this year, I wouldn't be surprised to see Edmonton take him at #1.

Looks like an absolute franchise defender.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not...

He could be, for sure, but it seems pretty early to suggest that.

I've been on the Seth Jones camp since he was in the NAHL. He played against my best friend's little brother. Kid was the best player on the ice when he played against my University. He's a manchild in the u18's.

I think he's a generational talent.

Wow you guys are really making me want Jones to come to UND even more! Too bad I don't have a good feeling about that.

Do you consider any active player a generational talent? It's quite the statement about a player that won't be drafted for another 14 months.

This is the exact type pf defender u build your team around, really has everything u want in a player and great both ends of the rink and a physical beast. IMO, He would have clear cut ended up going 1st overall in this years draft if he was eligible for it.

Generational talents? You must have a far different definition that I do on the matter. When I think of generational talents it means a player who dominates a generation. For a Dman I would call the criteria at least 3 norris trophies.

Well that makes more sense. Personally I consider the latter two to be in a top tier of franchise defencemen. Lidstrom in a tier of players that are very close to generational talents (with Doug Harvey).

The term generational talent gets brought up too often around here, IMO. That being said, if you consider Jones a generational talent and MacKinnon not, I don't see any reason you wouldn't have Jones #1.
