Josh Shalla signs entry level deal

http://www.predsontheglass.com/2012/...deal-with.html

Quote:
According to the the Saginaw Spirit team web site, Josh Shalla has signed a three year entry level contract with the Nashville Predators.

Shalla recently completed his final season with the Spirit and is their all time leading goal scorer. He is set to join the Milwaukee Admirals as they open their first round playoff series with the Abbotsford Heat this Friday.

Shalla was the Predators' fourth round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in Minnesota last summer.
He's broken the Saginaw Spirit franchise record for Goals. PPG in the playoffs.

2011/12 Stats: 53GP 40G, 36A, 76Pts.

I've had the pleasure of watching a few of his games and he's going to be good. Lots of passion and obviously a natural goal-scoring ability. Look out for him with the Ads!

(Mods: you can move to Prospect thread if you wish, just wanted to make sure people saw this first. Cheers)

Wow...he was a 4th rounder? So far, looks like a steal. Excited to see how he does with a full season in Milwaukee next year.

If he can translate that scoring ability to the AHL and NHL then we have got some player. I wouldn't even care if he was good defensively or anything if we can get a guy that can score 30+ goals then i'll be happy. By the sounds of it this kid is a steal.

A 4th round draft pick in David Poile's hands is like giving McGuyver a box of paperclips and a ball of twine....

You know Trotz won't care for him if he can't play defense

That's awesome I haven't seen him play, but those are some solid numbers, especially for a 4th rounder.

Tootoo, Smith, Shalla, we rock at finding solid 4th rounders.

Has his skating improved? When watching video of him a year or two ago, I remember thinking how bad his skating was. His hockey IQ was great though.

That's always been the knock on him. From what I have heard, he's improved, I just don't know to what degree since I've only seen him play in person a handful of times. You have to remember that most young players that turn pro have to improve their skating ability. It's the one area that needs the most development it seems. You can't teach hockey IQ. Big boost for the Ads.

So elite junior scorer with skating questions goes to Ads and we hope he can continue tearing it up at the pro level. Hmmm seems like I have heard that before.......Oh that's right I have and his name is Taylor Beck.

Now I realize this was only Beck's first season in the A and his production has actually been decent but I'm just saying I'm not sold on Shalla until I see him produce as a pro.

That being said he was still a good pick for Poile in the 4th.

Except Shalla stands a pretty good chance of actually playing. The Admirals need the firepower.

no one is going to argue that he's the # 1 prospect

wait, are we saying shalla is the number one prospect?

I'd stop a little short of that-- he's been a good junior scorer, but the AHL is littered with those. He's also been pretty one-dimensional. He's not a "create offense" type of player, he's a garbage man with iffy mobility.

I think Patric Hornqvist is both a good comparison and the type of player\upside he could be, if he reaches his potential.

no. I'm mocking all those who argue Smith was back in the fall. Sorry, I thought the sarcasm was there.

I missed the warm-ups and didn't see him. Shalla wasn't listed on the roster. Foss played D since Bartley is injured and is expected to miss the game Sunday. There is an Anthony Bitetto (D) listed without a number. Mathieu Aubin (F) and David Leaderer a D-man from Cincinnati, didn't dress for the game.

Milwaukee played well in the first period and poorly in the second period. Expect fireworks in the game Sunday. The Heat got away with a lot of cheap shots.
