All over 6f00 would be amazing in Hamilton !!!!!! it would be the GIANT D-UNIT !!
Hamrlik just turned 38 and played less than 20 minutes a game this season. Let's trade two decent assets to pick him up for his retirement tour! Great idea!
Once again, defensive prowess is vastly overrated, or more accurately, vastly underappreciated amongst the current crop. Tell me how Hamrlik and Wyshart (?) will improve this team's showing of 4th in the league in Defense this season. Please explain that.
The far, far, far more pressing need is for more offense. Having Markov healthy will actually help at both ends of the ice, but we still need to replace offense lost from Cammy and AK. That's where we spend the money. If we're going to trade futures for anything, please let it be a forward, not a washed up slow 38 year old defenseman.
You guys really should be asking yourselves if you want good defensemen or you want big defensemen. The two don't necessarily go hand in hand.

I wouldn't trade weber OR a 3rd for Hamrlik let alone both. we can find better on the UFA market...plus how would Hamrlik know the systems when we don't even have a new coach or GM yet?

Hamrlik still can play 20 minutes, would you rather have Lydman, Sarich cuz their is nothing out there in the ufa market and for such a trade proposal (weber + 3rd) that we can have in return.
Weber and 3rd good assets : Weber as nowhere a place here and the 3rd is the actual value of Hamrlik i add weber to make some place and be sure to pry hammer out of Washington.
Wyshart is another depth move for Hamilton ... it's not just brigning size but also give some grits to our farm.
Well, not necessarily Hamrlik specifically, but possibly... at least worth thinking about scouring the options on players who might be deemed a little old, a little overpaid, a little... undesirable for whatever reason on their current teams. But who still have some of the elements we might need on our D, or some perceived potential to "bounce back".
If Stuart goes to SJ, if Jackman re-signs in STL, if Allen is more attracted to a winner than to piles of our cash, etc, etc...
Maybe WAS looks at Hamrlik essentially as a salary dump. Or Toronto with Komisarek (heaven forbid), or... I really don't know. Calgary rebuilding and nobody else being willing to touch Bouwemeester's contract (don't think he has fallen that far yet, though), but... etc, etc. *IF* there was a Plan "C" option available for essentially nothing in a trade as a salary dump, we might be down to that kind of gamble this summer too. Lydman and Ballard are maybe a couple others I've heard as possibly on the outs. Paul Martin. I really don't support the Ballard or Komisarek options at all, mind you.
I mean, of course I hope our GM can sign our Plan "A" type. But it might be asking for too much of a miracle.

Exactly !
i do think that we can't afford to be upfront bidder in d-man if we are looking for a real shake up bid for our foward.
So I simply offer a little change that will help our team for a year or so knowing the depth we have in our farm ... knowing that we can estimate that a cup window will open in the next 2 years ... no joke. so we must SIGN a Parise type player as soon as possible
Cole Desharnais Pacioretty as to be the second Unit of this team.
Plekanec must be surronded by two great scorer and be the first center we always hope from him. its not taling about giving him the chance ; its all about having quality player for him.
Moen Eller Bourque as a third unit can be a start up idea in october but can we have Gio + Plekanec + ? or do we Trade Gio to have another top 6 quality winger for Plekanec ??
For those who protect Weber Gimme a break, in a year or less Diaz did a better improvement to our d-core than he has in 3 years ....

Run at Suter... Stuart... Jackman... Allen...
if all fail, O'brien... Souray... Sarich would be in the next group, Martin & Lydman are too little an upgrade on Kaberle to be worth looking into (short of as part of a broader deal)
Komi & Ballard (or any other albatross deals) are only possible if they are key "add-ins" for us to move Gomez/Kaberle &/or part of a larger deal
Don't like the idea of trading "up" to fill that need, top-4 dmen on decent value contracts don't come cheap, and with our group, I'd rather make do with depth "grit" additions to our defense than overpay in assets for a quality top-4 guy.
isn't very appealing, but plug in a O'brien/Sarich/Souray/ZanonKubina/salvador... and it's an ok short-term/low cost fix (while we wait for 1 of Beaulieu/Tinordi/Ellis to emmerge).

The Habs should put Gomez on defense. He sucks at being a forward, so why not.We are stuck with him anyway so lets put him on D. We have converted d to forward so lets try and do it the other way, on the pp he would always pass to Subban for the one timer and he is a good skater so there is the soloution for gomez. Not 100% serious.
Just looking at the stats for Subban;
- led with 88 giveaways,double the other D
- led with 205 shots, resulting in 7 goals
The lad really needs to start thinking before he acts! Hope the new GM doesn't get carried away with this contract.
PMD's always have a pile of "giveaways". I think Markov was among the top 5 in the NHL one year, it's simply because they carry the puck a ton and try and generate offense. In general a pretty useless stat the way they figure it.

Yes this is correct. Not to mention it is a subjective statistic. An individuals definition of a give away can vary amoungst arenas. If I'm not mistaken, its usually the home team that is resposible for recording these statistics. Much like hits.

God knows the bell centre is filled with cynics too, he probably shoots and as soon as it hits a player it's counted as a giveaway...

Weber is two years younger than Diaz and St Denis. He may never move beyond
where he is today but I think this has to be taken into consideration. The Habs
have given up on too many young players.

Weber doesn't have a future with this organization. With Subban, Markov and Kaberle here right now and Beaulieu on his way, there is no need to keep a PP specialist on the team.
Diaz is currently better than Weber and provides better depth as Weber really is a defensive nightmare. He may be able to provide something to another organization so he should be moved, not just for the sake of acquiring an asset but allowing a young player to have an opportunity to succeed. Moves such as this are remembered by player agents and can be a future investment when dealing with UFA's.

While I expect Markov to be closer to his normal level next year his medical history
raises some concern. As for Kaberle, most posters would trade him for a bag of pucks
right about now.... I'm not saying Weber is the best answer but I'm leary of giving up
on young players too soon.

I would trade Kaberle for an empty bag......
That being said, I think he will be here when the season starts and if Weber is still around he won't be in the starting lineup if everyone is healthy. I am not a fan of Weber anyway as he has really struggled in the d-zone and his only real attribute is his shot.
