House, VandeVelde and Tyrvainen have been a hell of a good line.

Vande Velde looked good out there IMO. Surprised by how invisible guys like Green, Keller, Paajarvi, and Harski were in the 3rd though.

I only tuned in for the 3rd but that was a heck of a shot by Lander on that 5th goal. Great to see the Barons off to a strong start.

Kind of funny, who picks the 3 stars?

The Houston goalie was pulled in the second period but was picked as the first star.

Strange.

Kids got a wicked wrister and shot in general. Leaps and bounds better than Paajarvi's IMO. Not as skilled or "polished" offensively but just has good instincts and is solid in that regard. Reminds me of a "cleaner" Dave Bolland or perhaps a poor man's Mike Richards. Hopefully they don't screw this kid's development up.

Usually it's someone from the local media that picks the 3 stars. This is one of those games that stats don't tell the entire story. Hackett stopped 33 of 37 shots in just over 36 minutes of play! Without Hackett the Barons could have scored 10.

On the other hand, while Danis had the shutout, he was hardly tested facing only 14 shots (only 3 in the 1st period).

I agree with you. It was 19-3 after the 1st.

Boston-Washington would've been like that, but WSH showed up for 10 minutes of the second.

Even though he stopped 33 shots, he let in 4 goals

This is still less than a 90% save % which is kind of the line in the sand on whether you had a good night.

If you let in more than one goal in every 10 shots, you are performing below par.

If you look at numbers only, yes. Numbers don't tell the entire story. If a goalie stops the 1st, 2nd and 3rd shot, but the 4th attempt goes in it's not the goalie's fault. If goals are scored on 2 on nones, it's not the goalie's fault. If goals are scored as a direct result of defensive breakdowns or giveaways right in front of the net, it's not the goalie's fault.

Hackett kept the Aeros in that game. The 4 goals allowed were not his fault. Despite his stats, he played a hell of a game last night. Facing 37 shots in just over a half of a game is insane. He certainly was not pulled because of his play.

I'd say it is. Goalie shouldn't be given up 3 rebounds.

Seriously? So if the goalie makes a post to post leg save that ends up on the stick of the opposing player, makes that point blank save and on the 3rd or 4 attempt the opposing team finally scores that it's the goalie's fault and not the fault of the defense for not clearing any of the rebounds?

Combination of both. Poor rebound control and poor defensive clearing. Either way 4 pucks make it to the back of the net and you get pulled, there is no way you should be the star of the game.

For the star of the game, it's the hometown beat reporter that often issues them. In all honesty, who really cares who the stars are? The Barons won the game.

We'll completely disagree about Hackett's play last night though. I do wish that those like you that want to blame the goalie would put on the pads just once and see how hard it really is and that there truly are goals that a goalie has zero chance at saving.

Bottom line, Barons are up 1-0 in the best of 5 series.
