So happy Caps won. Holtby was amazing! That shot by Semin - WOW!!

Nice to see that the Caps are making it a series. They also managed a win without Backstrom.

I turned the channel back to the Phoenix - Chicago game to find that somehow 3 goals had been scored. The way that game was going I figured it was going to end 1-0. Saw the late tying goal...again. Hawks live off those late goals.

OT for the 4th consecutive time. Unbelievable.

And, hey, when the hell did Mike Smith become such a great goalie?

The NHL is a source of entertainment first and foremost, and needs to do what it takes to entertain its fans. If that means the refs call playoff games differently than regular-season ones, so be it. I know I don't need to see any more contests like last night's Pens/Flyers game.
That really doesn't make much sense. Refs call penalties during the regular season so the fans can have something to cheer for? If that were the case, then wouldn't the home team always end up being on the PP more so than the visiting one?

If the refs let more things go in the PO because it's more entertaining, then why don't they do it in the reg. season too? Because they want to make the games less entertaining??
What if you're on the short end of the ref's decisions to let things go and because of it, your team gets eliminated?..You just cost the owner millions of dollars in revenue had they advanced.

The reason refs let things go is because they don't want to be a factor. It's the old cliche. Problem is, by not doing their job properly, they are becoming a factor.
A penalty is a penalty, you don't let it go, no matter the reason.

The Pheonix system. Bryzgalov was great as well, look at him now...

Boedker did it again. Unbelievable. Coyotes take a 3-1 series lead, and Hawks dominated this game.

No question goalie is the most important player in playoffs. Bryz, MAF, Crawford, Howard have been brutal. Doesn't even matter how deep and talented your team is with those guys. Thomas, Holtby, Anderson, Lundqvist, Smith have been excellent based on the games I've seen so far.

Thomas is looking a lot more mortal than he did last year. But Boston has an excellent defense protecting him.

Bruins-Caps is not the most entertaining but it's true playoffs hockey. Fascinating to watch the Caps play the same rope-a-dope as the Bruins and win.

I'm not so sure. A team-for-sale who can win a playoff series has a lot more value. Buy low, sell high.

Although, with Betman, there is always a huge political component. He is married to the idea of NHL teams in impossible markets.

It's not going to make a difference with the city council. The extra games won't cover the $25M hole...

Brodeur with a new NHL record tonight... 26 career PO shut outs.

Amazing athlete.

Pretty soon there will be a league-wide retirement of his number.

Are we witnessing the changing of the guards in the West or something.

Canucks, Sharks, Wings and Hawks on the brink of elimination (well, Sharks will be after tonight ).

TSN says Bruins got an extra 5 seconds. Unbelievable considering they almost scored with 1 sec left. ******* the Bruins.

The Sharks are in major need of a rebuild/retool. They'll never win with Thornton and Marleau as they have not already done so, they should trade them for futures while they still have value, and build around Logan Couture.

Wings built a cup contender with lucky drafting: Lidstrom in the 3rd round, Datsyuk in the 7th and Zetterberg in the 6th. However, each of those guys is getting older fast. I don't see them competing for a cup again with that roster ... but then again an old Dallas Mavericks did pull off a cinderella run.

Hawks built a cup contender but their GM could not keep the team together. I remember watching that draft on TV, they said Patrick Kane was going 1st overall because the draft was weak. In hindsight, a correct analysis.

And yes, **** the Bruins.

There was supposed to be an extra 1.something seconds, instead the Bruins get an extra 5 seconds.

Not sure about that. Roy's number wasn't retired. There's 5 goalies and 22 players all together currently wearing it.
There's 20 other players with Brodeur's number. I doubt there will be a league wide retirement.
