He did well in Florida when he faced lots of shots each game, lucky for him Toronto gave up the 5th most per game on average last year

I don't think that is the case, at least for Bryz. He has shown he can play well under Burke's system with the Ducks, I don't think its that far-fetched to believe he will find his game again with the Leafs.

Not to mention he could probably be had pretty cheaply.

no spot for penner to play. if we didnt have armstrong, lombardi, connolly, then maybe i would be ok to take a flyer on him but there is neither cap space nor roster space for him.

i can see burke being interested in stewart. there have been some discussion on what st louis would want. it seems based on here that something around gunnarson and stewart as the main pieces could be workable.

burke would probably have interest in j staal. i shutter at what the pens would want/actually get but i think something with kulemin and schenn and j staal as the main pieces could get a conversation going.
Well obviously Burke would have to send some of those contracts the other way, which would end up making room for Penner and Bryz. The only reason you would be able to obtain players of there calibre for cheap is because they aren't in the right environment. Penner and Bryz have both had success before under Burke, it isn't unreasonable to think that they could regain their form again on the Leafs.

He should target a GM replacement.

I don't think Toronto could do much worse than what Vancouver has done.

I think he should throw a massive contract at Ryan Suter. Add a 30 minute monster of a d-man and trade one of the younger d-men for a forward or goalie.

You mean when he had Niedermayer and Pronger in front of him? Even then he was a very hot and cold goaltender.

Leafs should bite the bullet and suck (worse than they normally do) and grab MacKinnon or Jones in the draft next summer. They just don't have the young assets needed to grab an upcoming star and this is a weak free agent class

Toronto should go for Luongo this off-season.

Other then that, Toronto is just a glorified AHL team. Bunch of third liners.

Colangelo and Burke walking out of TO egoless after this year.

As an outside looker, he needs to do something to get an established goaltender

Even if he may not like the contract, Luongo might work out. But, with the media in Toronto, he could probably have more breakdowns than with the Canucks.

Toronto treats their goalies (unless they're really garbage & even in Raycroft's case if was more a case of what they gave up to get him that his medicore/awful play) far different than say, their defenseman.

Kind of helps having two guys named Pronger & Neidermayer in front of you (and it's not like his numbers were that great then).

Crazy overpayment, and even still, who trades their #1 center when you are not in a rebuild and Getzlaf Loves California. He isn't leaving.

Want to know the overpayment I am talking about?

2012 1st
2013 1st
Gardiner
Grabovski
Colborne

How does that look for you?
What a joke.

I know the Leafs need a #1C, but why on earth would they EVER accept this? I'd have a hard time giving up the this package for most players around the entire league, let alone Getzlaf an his 11 goals this season

Getzlaf is also UFA next summer and I imagine that he'll be testing the waters. Why wouldn't the Leafs just wait the extra year and try to sign him without parting with any players assets?

Yaaaa his point was that they wouldn't give that up and that it'd take a massive overpayment to consider it right now.

Basically, there's no way in hell Getz is a Leaf this offseason.

Strange that a glorified AHL team was able to stay in a playoff position for such a large portion of the year. Also, I'd love to get a jersey of whatever team Kessel and Lupul are 3rd liners on.

if your bringing in a vet goalie you should have all the other pieces in place...which I don't think has happened yet in Toronto.

imo team defense should be top priority, they need more two-way play out of their top 6.

After they gave up what they had to acquire him, who would be left for him to play with.

How so? A capable goalie could make an average team good, unless the intention is to suck for the draft every year
