Acquiring Ozolinsh increases the chances that Sather doesn't re-sign Poti.

Yes, he doesn't have to re-sign Poti, but he probably would have without this trade.

worst move was tampa bay not picking up a goalie. looks like they just gave up any hope of repeating.

as bad as grahame/burke have been, i wouldn't be surprised if they missed the playoffs.

Why sign Poti when JD and Sam are saying Staal is close to being called up. You guys complain about Poti so much Staal should be a big upgrade. Cheap too, cheaper than Ozolinsh who is looking old this year (what about next?).

Best value for an impending UFA: Roloson...a FIRST?
Best value for a worthless or of negative value player:Friesen, why give up a second when you most likely aren't going to make the playoffs and isn't he UFA?
Best mortgaging of one's future: Edmonton, they gave up a lot. Unless they win a cup this could be a poor move, if they do I will get a knife and fork and eat my words.
Best throw-in: Not too many throw ins so I'll go with anyone in the Dal/Min trade.
Best ripoff of another team: NYI/LA
Best trade for both teams involved: COL/MON (if Col makes the playoffs)
Best overall team improvement for this year: Vancouver^10
Best overall team improvement for the future: NYI
Special achievement for not making sense: I could go on and on.
Klee for Suglobov
Two 2nd rounders for Gauthier (I don't care how many you have, two is still a lot)
Det. dropping Rivers for a 7th and picking up Cross for a 4th
Anh. getting Friesen

Best mortgaging of one's future: Edmonton...giving up 3 picks and 2 players for an aging veteran goalie and a potential UFA

Best throw-in: Brent Sopel to the Kings...assuming Parrish was the main guy in that trade originally

Best ripoff of another team: (tie) Washington and Minnesota...both teams picked up first round picks for guys who aren't worth that much

Best trade for both teams involved: Dallas-Minnesota...Stars get an upgrade at defense in Mitchell and the Wild pick up two defensemen in his place, they were very thin at that position

Best overall team improvement for this year: Edmonton...they pick up a proven starting goalie and add a speedy sniper on the left side

Best overall team improvement for the future: Washington...picking up a 1st and a 2nd round pick and freeing up a lot of money for next year

Special achievement for not making sense: Pierre Lacroix for downgrading his goaltending and not improving his defense...plus, he's without his leading goal-scorer for the rest of the season
I think Oilers fans are quite happy with giving up a little future for present returnd...it has been the other way for so long.....have notice most people believe the Oilers got good value as many people have the Oilers down for Mortaging the future as well as most improved

Best value for an impending UFA: WSH's return for Witt.
Best value for a worthless or of negative value player: NYI's return for Kvasha.
Best mortgaging of one's future: EDM trading a 1st to MIN for Roloson.
Best throw-in: None really stand out.
Best ripoff of another team: WSH picking up a 1st from Nashville.
Best trade for both teams involved: The DAL/MIN trade involving Mitchell.
Best overall team improvement for this year: VAN.
Best overall team improvement for the future: NYI.
Special achievement for not making sense: PHX/ANA (tie). Are these guys buyers or sellers?

Best value for an impending UFA: The Roloson deal. Very good value for a goalie they were probably losing anyway. Close second goes to the Carney deal.

Best value for a worthless or of negative value player: Oleg Kvasha for a third rounder.

Best mortgaging of one's future: Vancouver: They gave up a lot of draft picks and two prospects (Mojzis and Skinner), but they acquired many good players for them. They also still have their first rounder.

Best throw-in
: Juha Alen

Best ripoff of another team: Samsonov deal.

Best trade for both teams involved: ANA/VAN: Carney for 2nd + Skinner

Best overall team improvement for this year: Vancouver

Best overall team improvement for the future: Captials by acquring even more draft picks.

Special achievement for not making sense
: Clarke for giving up two second rounders, plus Gratton for Gautheir.

Staal will not be available till his team is eliminated in Junior playoffs. Maybe to NY and quite possibly to Hartford for the AHL playoffs.

Rangers are being very cautious with youngsters these days as maybe they have learned from majorly screwing up Malhotra's development.

As for re-signing Poti, I'm not advocating it but Sather seems to like him.

As for Ozolinsh, Sather was very impressed with his play in the Olympics.
