As much as I have a visceral response to non-traditional, small-market teams winning the Cup, I wouldn't care as much that the Preds won the Cup, considering their team is made up of some pretty likeable, hard-working guys. Plus, they've taken their lumps as an organization, unlike the kids that comprise the Blues...

Zetterberg was a workhorse, though. Datsyuk was pretty much a nonfactor.

The reffing didn't decide this series, but I'm a bit upset that when the third period hit they wouldn't even call Weber on slashing Datsyuk's stick in half. There's a difference between letting them play and letting it become the Wild West.

Ah well, Ken better do something this off-season. Any Wings team that isn't excellent is a disappointment, and this team isn't excellent.

Zetterberg was a workhorse and yet had 3 points and was a minus player.

There's something really wrong with the way this team is constructed.

It's fine for you to not like a guy. I just objected to him being singled out in some significant way. I think he had a very good series, tbh. I usually pick on Ericsson, but he also didn't seem to do much that made me notice him in a negative light. I wish he had more offensive spark because our D was just not getting it done, top to bottom, but there you have it.

Zetterberg has Filppula on his wing, who works his ass off. Pavs typically had Mule and Bert. It was obvious come playoff time. Didjya know Bert's a power forward?

Filppula was completely and utterly invisible in the playoffs. I'm not even sure he played at all.

That's a big reason why I'm not a fan of him. Because when he was signed and i brought up my dislike of the trade, people told me to relax because he would add much needed blue line offensive/movement. I also thought Ericcson played pretty well.

Yeah. I'm seriously starting to wonder if Datsyuk is sick of who he gets stuck with. It's really a travesty.

We didn't do much great in this series, but there were a few bright spots. I have to think just the experience of playoff hockey was good for Gus and Emmerton.
I liked what I saw out of Nyquist in the series, especially taking into account that he was handcuffed to Homer and Emmerton for most of his IT. I REALLY would have liked him to get more games up w/ the Wings during the season, and more time w/ Datsyuk, which could have really set him up for success this postseason. Of course, Babcock doesn't seem fond of playing the young guys, so he still might have banished him to the 4th line anyway.

I got it from Detroit News - it's not dated. Looks like it was his first stint though. 3 or 4 years ago at least.

This team is going to look like Grand Rapids next season; If Lidstrom decides not to come back, everything is permitted outside of trading Datsyuk or Zetterberg. You have to try and keep the good young prospect talent as well, so Nyquist, Smith, Mrazek, Jurco, Tvrdon, Jarnkrok and Oullette should be out of play.

Now we find out if Holland has the stones to man up, or if he retires and gives a hot potato to Jim Nill.

Datsyuk and Z led the team with 3 points. It's a pretty freaking small list of guys who stood out in a positive way.

We gave a good effort and fell short. It hurts because in so many ways the Wings and us fans are strong enough to continue on, but the vibrations are not right. Nashville easily squelched us out this series, our team wasn't able to do what worked all season.

Full respect to the Predators and their game. I did underestimate them. They are a defensive based team with only a few "stars" but they proved how to quietly get the job done. It is so rare this year to see the DRW so tight and stifled.

I give Nashville credit for the win and expect them to be dangerous further into the playoffs. At least we'll see how they truly match up in the NHL, as the Wings are not a measuring stick IMO. We are a complete mystery right now, another dimension of hockey reality.

Hilarious. I thought the same thing. This is the last year I think that excuse can be made for certain personalities. How you play the last games of the season is pretty much how you're looking post-season.
