Confirmed

Hawks 1st 2012
Jeremy Morin
Victor Stalberg
Steve Montador

for

Thomas Plekanec
Raphael Diaz
Habs 4th 2013

Hawks GM comments:

The Chicago Blawkhawks are proud to announce the acquisition of Thomas Plekanec and Raphael Diaz. Yes we sacrificed some of our future and cheap scoring depth, however, our goal is to win now and we believe Thomas Plekanec helps with that goal. He is one of the league's premier two-way forwards and will allow us to strengthen our center depth. We feel extremely comfortable moving forward with Toews, Plekanec and Bolland down the middle. We believe we have become a more well-rounded team. Moreover this move allows us to move Patrick Sharp to the wing on a full-time basis. Thomas Plekanec also helps solidify our second line not only defensively, but offensively as well.

Raphael Diaz is has some good potential. He has excellent gap control and reads the play very well. He brings even more mobility to our back and we hope that he can solidify our bottom pairing. We believe that he still has room to grow as a player and we are proud to have him do so as a Hawk.

As was said earlier, we sacrificed the future for short-term gain, however, we believe that we have a relatively deep prospect pool at the forward position which allowed to make such a trade. We are sad to see Stalberg and Montador go. We hope that by moving to Montreal that Stalberg is able to have a greater role. Unfortunately, the salary cap changes team-player relations and forces us to make decisions we otherwise wouldn't make. Moving Montador brings us a little cap relief going forward which will allow us to make moves in the future.

Are we done? No. No team is ever done. If there is room for improvement, whether short-term or long-term, we will consider it. Obviously short-term is a priority as we feel that a window is open for us within the next couple of years to contend for the cup, but long-term moves are not out of the question if they are appropriate.

Trade Announcement:

TJ Brodie
Blake Comeau
Johnny Gaudreau

for

Tomas Kopecky

The Flames are happy and very pleased with the acquistion of Kopecky and feel he will add much needed grit for the bottom 6. He will also be a key player who can help out in the top 6 if needed.

We thank the professionalism of the Florida Panthers with trade negotiating.

Dallas seem to have Jamie Benn under contract...seems like he has refused the Oilers' offer sheet.
It official, Benn has sign a 4 year deal worth 18 million with a NTC.
Also, Dallas has been busy signing

Jake Dowell to a 2 years deal worth 2.2
Toby Petersen for 1 year at .850
Sheldon Souray for 2 years worth 3.9
Philip Larsen for 2 years worth 2.5
Akim Aliu for 2 years worth 1.7
Richard Bachman for 2 years worth 1.5
Adam Burish for 2 years worth 3.3

Canadiens GM comments:
while it was obviously very difficult to let plekanec go, we feel that it is in the best interest of the canadiens organization to part with him at this time. with the blackhawks organization, tomas is one step closer to winning the cup, something that will most likely not happen with him in montreal.

for his services, we acquire a first, which should be somewhere in the 20-25 range; jeremy morin, a big american right winger with top 6 potential; steve montador, a big solid bottom pairing guy; and finally the piece i am most excited about: viktor stalberg. a 6'3 left winger who has just broken out with 22 goals and 43 points who will be getting significant ice time with the montreal canadiens.

by trading our number one center, we leave a huge hole in our organization, one that i feel desharnais and eller will be able to help fill in this transitional period.

so, we can put the kibosh on making the playoffs in 2013 and focus on 2014 with the huge influx of talent from hamilton and when certain important contract expire.

we wish tomas the best in chicago - and look at those two top lines - and we are excited to welcome those new additions to montreal.

and as a side not, it also means that desharnais and eller are practically off the market

"Obviously it's very sad to see Kopecky leave, since he was a grea teamplayer who also wore the "A" in Florida sometimes, we want to wish him all the best in Calgary.

Since we are in a rebuild mode we are thrilled to add a young NHL-defenceman in TJ Brodie, who we think can be a top-4 D in the future. Blake Comeau is a bit of a gamle, but we remember his breakout season (24G, 22A) in Islanders a few years ago and he is still fairly young. In addition to those players we also added a longshot prospect in Johnny Gaudreau (4th round pick in 2011). Johnny is a small winger, but with a high upside if he reach his potential.

Panthers GM are very happy with the smooth negotiations with Calgary and we wish them all the best in the future!

Columbus here; We have Rick Nash, Derick Brassard, and the 2nd overall selection available. Immediate team needs are blue-chip centers and a goalie. Will listen in on any offers.

Jamie Oleksiak may turn pro after all. The towering Dman may look to make the roster on opening night. The coaching staff are pleased with his development and thinks that he could have a good impact on the team.

On an other note, my source say that Dallas has made a offer for Rick Nash that would include top end talent Jack Campbell.

Pens confirm this move.

''Again paid a hefty price to acquire the player we wanted. Want to wish Dustin Jeffrey the best in Calgary.

Curtis will be the last piece of the puzzle to complete our top 9 fowards as he will play LW along with Sidney Crosby and Kyle Okposo. Crosby likes to play with hardworkers who plays a intense game and Glencross is all that with good scoring ability.''

TRADE

Colby Armstrong and Nicolas Deschamps

Matt Niskanen, Carl Sneep and '12 6th pick

''Wish the best to Matt and Carl in Toronto.

Colby Armstrong had a tough going in Toronto and also has a heavy cap hit but in a contract year coming back to where he had great years, we think he can help us for the coming season. Deschamps will bring depth on offence.''

Toronto accepts. I like Deschamps, but getting a chance to move Armstrongs contract had to be taken. I also am pretty high on Niskanen.
