Kovalchuk is a team player. He wants to play. He's obviously hurt. They're using him in the wrong situations. I can't blame him, he's still playing better than most of the team. He's trying. Poor guy.

Anyone have a stat on how many minors we averaged per game during the season? I asked last thread, got nothing.

Kovalchuk has no propulsion in his legs. Bernier needs to be getting more minutes.

Absolutely. They just don't care enough. They may be getting screwed by the refs, but their play doesn't instill any confidence in anyone. They're still a ways off from being able to compete for a Cup.

Although Marty played well......that "play" on the second goal was real deflator, we were on the verge of tying the game at that point.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the 3-0 final score---the bane of my existence.

Not enough sustained forechecking in this one. And a lot of individual battles lost. Our big players did not step up in the clutch.

With how NJ has played in this series, they would have lost to any team in any matchup.

We didn't pick our opponent. We finished out the season playing to win every game. We didn't win or lose to get matched up with somebody specific. This is just how the cards fell.

We played like pansies but I can see why, the refs were horrible. It sounds so cliche to blame this on the refs but they are truly effecting the outcome of this series.

As many have said Can't really place any expectations on the devils at this point. never know what you're going to get So in reality have no clue whether not they will show up for game 6. Which is why I don't get too wrapped up in it anymore

The Panthers were the better team tonight. Blaming the refs for the loss is ignorance.

We're getting dicked on officiating. It's the truth. When you have 3 times the amount of penalties called against you in a game where the recipient team is not even dominating, something is wrong. NJ is one of the least penalized teams all ****ing year long and in the playoffs they take 6 per game. **** off with that noise.

With that said, bottom line is that NJ's top players need to step the **** up NOW. Way too many players not getting the job done right now. What good is all the depth if nobody is ****ing contributing.

I had high hopes for the Devils this spring. Those expectations have been severely tempered. But it would be an absolute disgrace to lose to this Panthers team, especially on home ice. 5 even strength goals, 2 of which have been into an empty ****ing net, and they're one game from advancing. Something is not right here.

This series isn't over. The Devils have lost so many series when they are up 3 games to 2. We can only hope that the same thing will happen to the Panthers.

1991 Up 3-2 over the Penguins and lose in 7
1994 Up 3-2 over the Rangers and lose in 7 (We lose the Conference)
1999 Up 3-2 over the Penguins and lose in 7
2001 Up 3-2 over the Avalanche and lose in 7 (We blow the Cup!)
2009 Up 3-2 over the Hurricanes and lose in 7

Actually as a Devils fan these are the most devastating losses I have ever experienced.

Where do I begin. Marty kept us in the game only to commit an awful heart-ripping gaffe.

The forwards were pathetic tonight outside of Parise and maybe Elias. Outside of maybe Harrold and Fayne, the rest of the defensemen were bad tonight and were pinching at bad angles and getting beat on a number of rushes. Zidlicky for all his passing and offense is a liability defensively, with poor recovery speed and no answer for forwards near the net other than commit a penalty.

I think it might be time to find a new GM.

This team is not consistent and does not have enough speed or offense from the back end. These 1st round exits are getting ridiculous.

If NJ gets Suter/Weber, it's a wash.
