Patrick Marleau
2nd round pick (55th overall)

1st round pick (12th overall)
1st round pick (22nd-30th overall Nashville's)

Would they bite on that?

dont care what else we need to ship out to get the needed players i outlined. run lines of

JVR-Staal-Havlat
Galliardi-Bolland-Winnik
asham-desjardins-wingels

vlasic-burns
stuart-boyle

fa dman, doesnt matter

vokoun
greiss

roll that. the MOST IMPORTANT thing to playoff and regular season success is having 3 lines that have 1 #1 center, and 2 second line centers.
This isn't NHL 12. How do you expect to land all of those players? Nash and Stuart I can see happening but that's about it. I'd love to get Vokoun but I have a bad feeling DW is going to stick with Niemi.

Try to trade clowe. Figure out the best spot for galiardi/Mitchell

Look into UFA
I hope we got a lot of good picks for Couture...

Force him out. Pull a Tampa Bay, and threaten to waive him. Edmonton would surely claim him, and I doubt he'd want to go there over Buffalo. 2nd has to stay. Buffalo isn't going to want their first draft pick to be not until the 3rd round. Add a prospect from Buffalo if need be.

We need some young up and coming players like Philadelphia, they rebuilt in 1 years time. I hope we can do the same.

No point in waiving Handzus even if he's bad. It's either 2.5 million next year or like 1 million next year and 500k the year after that if you buy him out. Might as well keep him for depth that the team will hopefully never have to use. If they sign a bunch of players and desperately need that extra million or so, then maybe.

EDIT: Just did the calculator, and a buyout would mean 833k for two years, not 1.5 and 500k.

That's an excellent way of making sure that nobody will want to come to San Jose.

They rebuilt by sending out Carter and Richards. Whats the Sharks equivalent of that?

Sorry forgot him. I think he is a better winger, so put him with Thornton for a season.

XXX-Thornton-couture
XXX-marleau-Havlat
Winnik-pavs-mitchell (if he takes a pay cut
Wingels-desi-galiardi (discount)

If you can get solid pieces for marleau do it. Otherwise you gotta keep him, UFA isn't promising to get hosed on a marleau deal.

1. Starts with looking at expiring contracts (UFA) at the end of next year. These would be:

Clowe
Handzus
Vlasic
Murray

Handzus has a NMC so that would be a hold or buyout situation - he's not worth much. Vlasic likely gets an extension. If Clowe and Murray are not likely to remain, move them for value while you can.

2. Of reserve and AHL players, who would be capable of jumping into the lineup? If not enough are ready, look at the UFA class to see who might be available to fill holes - including your own.

3. Marleau & Thornton are completely immovable due to their contracts. If DW goes to Marleau and asks for a waived NMC and he refuses, you've entered a real bad situation for the next two years. The only teams he might waive for are likely division rivals, and that's playing with fire.

My take? Strategic roster moves, not a full blow up. Boyle, Murray, Clowe traded for picks or younger players; Mitchell & White walk. The coaching staff will be replaced.

So, next year we'd see something like

Marleau - Thornton - Pavelski
Havlat - Couture - X
Wingels - Desjardins - Galiardi
X - X - X

Burns - Vlasic
Demers - Braun
X - X

Fill in those holes however you like - within the cap of course.

Edit: Now that I think a little more, they should really move to the three-headed-monster lineup down the center (Thornton - Couture - Pavelski)... but we need wingers. No more of this converted center junk. Where are they going to draft this year? 15-18?

We can, we are there just, d.w. has destroyed our depth, as we have just witnessed. We really need to fix this; similar to what philly did.

How about; Clowe and Murray to t.o. for Kessel and, we go big to try and get either Parise or Suter or Weber.

Marleau strong-armed by DW with a waiver threat; honestly, what agent would ever do bizniz with DW again?

If they want to trade Marleau for anything (like Nash), they're gonna have to do some serious mental jujutsu.

"Hey, Patty, have you heard about that Columbus zoo? They've got some serious kid discounts, plus lions! And tigers! And bears! Does San Jose have that? I think not! Plus, did you know that both Columbus and California are spelled with a capital 'C'? Yeah! I know! What are the odds?!?!?!?"

It's not like we sign big name players ever, anyways. The stars we do get are via trade.

I forgot to write that, but that would be ideal. Let DW do the dirty work. Can him, and let the new GM draft and do free agency.

We need more experience and a really good puck control guy. Our guys have skills but they aren't puck control specialists majority. St. Louis and Philly have youth and vets on every line to balance it out.

Kessel and Parise are excellent at the control and, Kessel brings youth and speed.

Suter and Weber speak for themselves.
