Can a coach contract or a GM contract be a trade asset in the NHL? As a caps fan i would offer much for Shero and/or Babcock.
Yes
Quebec traded there coach(Michel Bergeron) to the Rangers in 1988 for a first round pick. As for a GM I assume no GM would trade for somebody to take his job. lol
Not anymore. Under the previous CBA teams could receive compensation for employees moving to other organizations, though I don't think any active head coaches ever were moved.

well certainly it would be hilarious for GMGM to trade himself to pens for Shero
But can franchise owners trade GMs?
Trading GM's would be hilarious...the Leafs and Sens trade Murray for Burkie, and Burkie gets another Cup, but in Ottawa after Murray does all the work...
Lots of coaches and gm's have been traded in their playing days, now they are behind the bench or in the press box
There use to be compensation picks I believe if your team hired an assistant coach/gm under contract to be your new coach/gm but I think that stopped at the CBA?

The Oilers got a pick for letting Montreal hire Claude Julien.

I'm pretty sure the Wings would rather hold on to Babcock! And why do you want a new coach? Hunter has that team playing some serious playoff hockey for the first time in years!
