A team with big time cap space will pay that for him and it will be another bad contract.

The oilers will sign to a long term deal
Something around the 4.5mil range for the next 4 or 5 years

Burke will go out and snag this guy at 5.5m per for 4 years with another conditional NTC a la Komisarek and it will come right back and bite us in the ass again.

So much depends on the new owners who are about to take over. None of us know what their budget will be so we generally assume it'll be roughly the same.

Even if it is roughly the same, they could afford a 4.5M-5.0M player pretty easily. Arnott, Langenbrunner, Colaiacovo, Huskins and Stewart made 12.125M this year. Tarasenko, Schwartz and Cole replace Langenbrunner, Huskins and Stewart (all on ELCs for a fraction). That gives you 9M+ for a third line center (could be Arnott again at ~2.5M) and that top pair LD.

I'm not sure how much non-Blues fans perceive the flexibility the Blues have to add that key piece, but they definitely do.

They may have to battle it out with the Avs who have the most cap room to earn that bad contract

The Blues will NOT give Jackman a long term deal. Not at his age and injury history. They know he's replaceable if he prices himself out of their range in the open market. They will not overpay.

Depends on what you consider long term. Jackman is a good player. He is likely willing to take a discount to stay in St. Louis. I could see a three year $10-12 million dollar contract for Jackman from St. Louis.

He'll sign a similar deal to his last one IMO. Will avg between 3.5M and 4M for 4 years. That particular poster can't stand Jackman so keep it in mind with his Jackman predictions.

Sure, just send Smid or Ryan Whitney over as compensation.

If he gets anywhere close to 5M, he better send a "Thank You" card to Brian Campell.

I'd love to have him in Minnesota, but I have doubts whether he can sustain his numbers.

He's going to clean up on the UFA market and some GM is going to have to clean up the mess later. My guess is the Oilers sign him.

Oh and I disagree that he's the second most sought after free agent defenceman. He's number three.

And who's #2? Carle or maybe Wideman? I'd take Garrison over those two without a doubt in my mind.

Schultz will be sought after without a doubt, but Garrison is going to be in the driver seat after Suter signs his new deal if he plays his cards right.

This can turn out to be another Jeff Finger scenario where a defenseman has a decent season and turns it into 3 years worth of millions. Let's see which team pulls the trigger on him at the salary his agent is looking for. Edmonton and Tampa Bay could end up paying for his services.

Garrison's goal scoring went up this year but this isn't his first season of good defense and his goal scoring could be indicative of his increased PP time rather than just an aberration like many seem to be ready to write it off.

No, pay the extra two million for Suter.
They are the same age, yet this is the first year Garrison has hit over 20, let alone 30 points. Meanwhile, Suter has four straight years of hitting over 30 points. His 16 goals is flukey as hell. First time he's hit over eight goals since turning pro and that eight was with Rochester in the AHL. Suter has consistently put up 4-7 a year and racks up quite a few assists as well.

Give me Suter every day of the week over Garrison, especially if the difference is only two million.
