Pre-injuries Mike Green maybe.

No way the Oilers do that for the current version of Green. If his injuries act up again, you just traded Yakupov for the no.11 pick, lol.

Way too much risk.

He got a surgery around Winter 2012 that fixed what had kept injuring him (I forgot exactly what) and has been fine since. Obviously not as good as he was, but he's getting better.

i agree with this assessment.

And isn't some of Green's troubles based on his dislike of hunters system?

Green's groin is a real concern but this would have to be considered.

It's not even close. Regardless of how good he has been in the past is nowhere close in terms of value to drop from #1 to #10 with that much uncertainty.

Alex Edler (Turned 26 Yesterday)
1st Round Pick (26th Overall)

I'm fairly sure the Canucks will be moving into a pacific division that will not include the Oilers within the next couple of years, so the "no trading in the division" argument is out the window for me at least. Oilers get a young top pairing defenseman who can step into their lineup next season and make a big difference, and a lower first round pick to make up the difference. Canucks need another scorer, Yakupov should fill that need.

Thoughts?
That is really awful for Edmonton. Horcoff is overpaid but he isn't detrimental to the team. He's still a solid top 9 center, and on a team where he doesn't have to shelter every other center he may even be a top 6 center still. Next year his caphit won't be a problem, and considering after next season he makes a combined 7 mill over the last two years and no longer has a NMC he won't be too hard to move if the Oilers had to. Also as overpaid as Horcoff is, so is Nash. I wouldn't move Yakupov for Nash, let alone throw in our top AHL winger (best ppg on the team of players with at least 20 games) and top AHL center. Omark will be moving so that doesn't concern me. If i was going to trade for Nash it would be for something like this.

Horcoff, Paajarvi, Lander, Teubert
1st+2nd+2nd(Anaheim) in 13

I'd probably throw in a player/asset (in order of preference) like Cornet, Roy, Blain, R.Jones, 32nd, Pitlick, Musil, 1st-14. I think this is a good package, but i could understand the lack of instant star power turning Howson off.

that deal is about as likely as you guys winning the cup in 2012.

No to the nucks trade.

And if it was pre injury Green. I would consider it.

Johansen, Methot, LA 1st

good defensive d who gets time here and there for Canada (like the WC's again this year) but is being forced out by young kids playing really well
top young player and a player the Oilers are known to like
mid first most likely

CBJ get Yakupov and Galchenyuk/Murray (probably Galchenyuk because of aforementioned rising d players)

I think basing something around Johansen is reasonable, however i don't think Methot is the solution here with Smid, Schultz, and Peckham in the fold. The Oilers really need a top pairing two way defenseman, and any deal for the 1st needs to address that. Also as good as Johansen may end up being it is fairly risky for the Oilers to trade a guy who is almost a sure fire bet to be a franchise player. Johansen is much more likely to take a few years to contribute to a WINNER while Yakupov will need a year of seasoning at most (largely because wing is easier). If i'm the Oilers i want a top prospect like Johansen coming back as well as a top 4 two way defenseman in the least (think Coburn, Tytuin). Because Yakupov is the best player i would probably still seak another significant asset like LA's 1st.

Johansen, Tytuin, LA 1st
for
Yakupov

I probably still say no (after all i wouldn't move either Hall or Hopkins for this) but it would make me think. If the Oilers are going to move Yakupov for depth, it needs to be significant enough to fill all or most of the holes in the roster. Player types who would eliminate our weaknesses are easier to come by than a franchise talent.

That makes sense.. CBJ wouldn't do it because of how well Tyutin and Nikitin play together, unfortunately.

I think Edmonton would take this and run.

You give up a fair bit, but you get your franchise goalie, a likely top pairing defenseman and still get a 1st and a 2nd this draft to target someone like Thrower.

so the oilers trade to move from 32nd to 30th? Tuuka Rask numbers are partly due to the fact he has very good D in front of him--oilers d is not as good as the B

Oilers would need to think about the deal

DD has looked very good at times this year

Everyone knows that Edmonton wants Murray. Lowe invited him to Team Canada for God's sake . Unless Edmonton trades the 1st overall to a team in 6+ overall plus range, they won't get an arm and a leg for that pick. Go ahead and pick Yakupov. We'll take Murray and wait for you to overpay for him. And before you use the we'll trade Gagner argument, go ahead. You won't get much for him.

Deal. Edm selects Colton Sissons or Dalton Thrower with the pick.

This trade would make the oilers a playoff team next year. Future Oilers

Oilers then trade Sam Gagner and 2013 1st to pittsburg for Jordan Staal

Hall-Nugent Hopkins-Eberle
Paajarvi-Staal-Hemsky
Hartikainen-Lander-Sissons
Ewanyk-Free Agent-Jones

Hamilton-Klefbom
Smid-Petry
Musil-Gernat/Davidson

Rask
Bunz
