Jones

good to see.
You do realize most of those players are not American?

Whatever. Of African descent. Does it really make that big a difference? You know what I mean and I know which ones are American and which are Canadian.

Well I don't think most Canadians would like to be called American.

You guys are getting into semantics and derailing the thread...

Seth Jones.

Phenom.

Making as much a case for #1 in 2013 as MacKinnon.

He's a player I'm excited about. Finally a candidate for top overall for the American program, only took six years since Pat Kane.

I never intended to do so.

Agreed. Phenom. Expecting big things from him.

Hell, even if it was the #2 or 3 sport.

It would be full of 6 1/2 footers who were explosive, coordinated, and could skate like the wind.

Seriously this is true.

Defensive linesmen are like 6'8" 350lbs and can run like a cheetah.

I wish there was more of a stream of American players rather than privileged Northern State white kids.

Comes down the the economics of the sport.

As a fellow Sioux fan I would love to see him play at UND, but I just don't see it happening due to the wide perception that the CHL is the quickest (and best) route to the NHL (imo it depends on the player/situation, Jones would do well anywhere). I also think it comes down to whether or not he wants to be able to focus on hockey 24/7 or if he's willing to split his time between hockey and school. Given that he wants to play in the NHL in a year, I imagine he'll want to focus on just hockey.

With that said, I would be happy to be wrong.

I wonder who did the recruiting job for UND considering Seth is a Colorado kid and his brother committed (but never played) for DU.

And since I can't edit I'll quote to clarify. He's not a "Colorado Kid" but this is where he got his start.

Nothing against US hockey but I want to see Seth play in the CHL, mostly because I'll get more of a chance to see him play.

I'll be amazed if this kid maintains his speed once he's filled out, can't wait to see how big he ends up getting.

Is this kid finally the kind of prospect that deserves comparisons to Pronger? Is that finally happening?

I'm content to let him be Seth Jones.

I think he will. He put on 35 lbs while he was with the NTDP and only got faster. Granted, he's still got a lot of room to grow but he's a great athlete so I wouldn't worry.

Have you seen Dumba's dad? He looks about as Canadian as you could ever be, big bulky bald man with a moustache, with skin as white as snow.

You would be losing your wager. The Dumba side is his father's who is from Saskatchewan. Matt was born in Regina, Sask.

His Mom is Filipina.

Dumba is a popular Malaysian surname but it has zero relevance to Matt Dumba's heritage.

Beat me to it.

In my opinion, he should sign with Portland. Guy with his level of skill would benefit more from going there.

Just saw that. Portland looks formidable well into the future if he signs! Gotta think Everett is hurting, they spent a first on him. Portland has done this in the past with a few players; landing Cam Reid but not Rocco Grimaldi. Portland would go from a shrinking team to a giant one with Keegan Iverson, Alex Schoenborn and Seth Jones.

What are the odds he's interested in coming to Portland? Gotta think the NCAA route is the favorite if Everett was willing to trade negotiation rights.

The Plano, Texas native has indicated that he will either play at the University of North Dakota or in the Western Hockey League next season following the completion of his two-year stint with the NTDP.
UND confirmed as his only NCAA location.

Still knowing he's going to the WHL.

This was never a secret.

There is still a shot he goes the NCAA route, however. Though yes, I'd personally lean 75/25 WHL.

Portland could have Jones-Rattie-Pouliot as their nucleus next year after losing Nino, Johansen, Morrow, Baertschi and Ross. Wow.

I'm friends with a former teammate of his who plays for the University of Denver and keeps in touch with him. He's more than positive he's going to the WHL.
