Also, this is what's wrong with how the refs call these games. They send Kreider to the box for interference when Anderson stepped in front of him to draw the penalty on purpose, and it didn't affect the play in any way. Ostensibly they say they're "protecting the goalie" on plays like that

Then they let Neil shove his stick into Lundqvist, grab it with two hands and push him out of the crease, and then kick at the puck within Lundqvist's crease.

The whole kicking rule is supposed to be about protecting the goalies from sharp skates blades, and Lundqvist could have easily had his hand or arm cut there.

THat's why Lundqvist is saying it's "scary". They just let that **** go and would rather call the goalie interference penalties where a goalie intentionally draws the contact, or a screwy call where a guys teammates shove a player into the goalie

I completely agree with you, the officiating was absolutely horrible tonight.

Giving him those minutes is like punting on 3rd down.

Arty looked like he had some smelling salts this game. Would much rather him playing with dubi and hagelin or something...

Inconclusive. No further explanation needed.
That's not why it was a good goal. It was a good goal because after the kick, Lundqvist touches it.

Is that moronic? Yes. But that's the rule.

You can essentially pull a Morton Anderson, and kick the snot out of the puck, as long as it hits the goalie before going in... and... GOAL!!!! New Jersey Devils fans learned of the moronic aspect of that rule earlier this season.

Yah I felt Arty had a turn around game, not a lot of minutes but definitely better. This is a team that needs everyone on their game, and for the most part everyone was pretty good. We still need Gaborik to get some goals though.

He didn't get any points, but Hagelin is one of those players that does little things beyond the score sheet that really help a team. Our possession with him in the lineup is worlds better. You could tell we missed him watching this game compared to the last 3.

Gabby seems to be bothered by the contact he has taken..like withdrawn...who knows time will tell.

There is literally not a plausible reason for Mitchell to get PP time with players like Hagelin, Anisimov, Dubinsky, and Kreider available for the second unit. He is USELESS. Tortorella is basically conceding the PP by putting him on the ice.

I don't ****ing get it.

But again, to me, the missed interference is the bigger problem

And this puts me at risk of being a big homer, but to some extent I agree with Lundqvist that "someone wanted the Sens back in the game"

I don't think it's a "we want the Sens specifically to win!" type of deal, but more of a tendency for the refs to swallow the whistle late in games, or call penalties against the team trying to defend a lead

I think they let that whole play go because it's "letting them play" and "more exciting hockey", but there has to be a line somewhere and it sure seems (to me) that you can draw it at shoving a goalie out of his crease and kicking at pucks in the crease

Again, I don't tihnk this is a specific thing favoring the Sens, I think they'd do it if the Rangers were in the same position, but I think it's dumb

Hopefully, Tortorella realizes how having Kreider out there helps the team. He would be quite the idiot to not see that, and I think he does realize it.
The Senators are watching Kreider, they know he is dangerous. I don't think they were expecting the infusion of a new player of that calibre.

Yeah, the league can just say "inconclusive" and then walk away with their fingers in theirs ears repeating it over an over again.

I think people that saw a distinct kicking motion would like an explanation beyond "inconclusive"

Not a lot to ask IMHO

The refs were favoring the Senators by horse*****ng them the entire second period? Realistically that should have been a 2-2 game going to OT. Just another well-played playoff game that the refs decided; it's an epidemic this year.

It's mystifying.

It's almost like Torts treats Mitchell as PP specialist when he's not. It's one thing for EC to get PP time when he was on the team, at least he had a good shot and showed flashes of talent at times. But Mitchell really does not have much creativity or skill. The only thing he does is hold on to the puck for way too long, which usually results in a turnover.

Quote:
49.2 Goals - Kicking the puck shall be permitted in all zones. A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who uses a distinct kicking motion to propel the puck into the net. A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who kicks a puck that deflects into the net off any player, goalkeeper or official.
No goal.

From 49.2:

(i) A kicked puck that deflects off the body of any player of either team (including the goalkeeper) shall be ruled no goal.
(ii) A kicked puck that deflects off the stick of any player (excluding the goalkeeper’s stick) shall be ruled a good goal.
(iii) A goal will be allowed when an attacking player kicks the puck and the puck deflects off his own stick and then into the net.

Sounds to me like it's irrelevant that Lundqvist gets his stick on it after Neil (attempted) to kick the puck. No?

i honestly appreciate this. when the Sens won, they outplayed the Rangers and i can't speak for all the Ranger fans but I recognized that. It pains me to see Sens fans saying that it was all because of the refs.

Just want to say good job to our boys tonight. Stuck with it and got the win. Bring some momentum back to the Garden for game 7.
