How would you fix the Hawks...

Needs

New Coaches
#1 Goalie
Top6 player that actually is a Top6 player (not like Stalberg or the others they tried)
Bottom pairing D

Takers for Frolik and Crawford have to be found. Stalberg can be part of a package for sure

Sharp, Toews, Kane, Hossa, Keith, Seabrook and Bolland won't go
Leddy, Saad, Hayes Bros, Krüger and Olsen are seen as untouchable for Bowman (unless it would be a steal for the Hawks - won't happen)

Any goalie other than Smith probably would've resulted in the Blackhawks winning the series. A goalie better than Crawford probably would've had Chicago leading 3-2 going into tonights game. I like the team Chicago has, they should go for a goalie only in my opinion.

Well it's not like Chicagos upper management got stupid last summer. They thought the roster was fine. And for the most part, it is. A few tweaks is all that's needed. A better goalie. A bigger, meaner defenseman. Thats about it.

Chicago has a handful of very good offensive threats. Chicago simply ran into a hot goalie. No need to blow it up. Come down off the ledge, the pain will pass.

Hawks have more holes than that. In addition to a 2nd line center, a goalie, and a Dman, they need guys who can hit, crash the net, and win battles on the boards. When they won the Cup, they had Ladd, Brouwer, Buf, Kopecky, Eager, Burish, even Sopel on the back end.

Honestly, the Hawks need to move Bolland and Kane/Hossa/Sharp for a top-6 center, a power forward, and a Dman. Sign Harding. Go after a guy like Semin. And then trade McNeil for a quality 3rd line center to replace Bolland.

A top end goalie would go a long way.

Crash the net with Semin?

Who's closer to a cup winning team Chicago or Buffalo?

Look up and down the roster. It's Chicago hands down.

Chicago is only 2-3 pieces away.

To get quality back, Chicago will probably have to give up quality.

Ryan Miller and Derek Roy for...

Crawford, Sharp, and Keith

Chicago has won without a top end goalie. Their defense is flimsy and were ousted by a hot goaltender. It happens.

That may be the very worst plan for the Hawk I've seen and thats saying something.

True. But I would think it would be easier to get 1 goalie instead of 2-3 D. And it surely looks like this is the summer for quality goalies changing addresses.

I could be wrong though.

Keith and Miller have similar value. Both were voted the best at their positions in 2010 and neither has played up to that level since. They are still both great but not the best.
Its arguable which is harder to find an elite #1 goalie or an elite #1 Dman (I say Dman) but the value is close.

Sharp is worth way more than Roy. At this point he is better at both ends of the ice and more physical. He is also signed longer. The value isnt even close and you still have the Hawks adding more.

Hawks need a goalie and some gritty bottom six guys that can provide secondary scoring.

I also think they need to revamp their d. Never did like Hjarlmarsson. Keith has been a shadow of himself for two years now.

I would look to move both of them.

I would keep Q. He is a good coach.

They miss Byfuglien, Ladd, Versteeg, and Brouwer.

Even though he has been good they never should have signed Hossa. That buggered up the salary structure and was part of the reason why they had to get rid of the heart and soul guys.

I wouldn't blow things up just yet.

First, they ran into a very, very hot Mike Smith and a team that plays a style that was suited for the Hawks. Wait until they make mistakes, then counter attack.

Second, what they need is depth. And depth is a problem that is difficult to simply throw money at (I should clarify; quality depth). When they won the Cup, they had Kopecky, Brouwer, Ladd and Versteeg all playing important depth roles. They need players like Morin and Saad to come up and contribute. They already have Hayes and Shaw, and Saad looked good in his limited time.

Hang onto Crawford and see if he can't bounce back. The goalie market is awful right now.

Basically, I would stand pat. They have elite players and the rookies look like they could be solid depth players. They just need time.

Coaching. I'm a big fan of Q - but two coaching issues need to be addressed and that may mean a change is neccessary.

First, the power play needs to be better. Much better. There were a few multi-game stretches during the season where the PP approached adequate. The other 65-70 regular season games and all 6 playoff games the power play was so spectacularly inept that not only didn't they score - they often turned over momentum in the game. This is a direct result of poor coaching, both in terms of tactics and players used. As an example, Keith has such a slow backswing/windup to get his point shot off that his shot has practically zero percent chance of not getting blocked. Additionally, on the odd occasion when Keith doesn't get his shot blocked - his accuracy has to be in the bottom 2% because he is just plain terrible at puting the puck on net. And yet, there he is playing the point man on the first PP unit all season long.

Second, team defense was never a demand from the coaching staff this season - or if it was the players weren't held responsibile and punished with lack of ice time. Either the forwards don't know who they should be covering in the d-zone - a coaching issue - or the players aren't puting out enough effort consistently - another idictment against the coaches for not demanding a better effort from the players - especially the star platyers.

Fix those two things and the Hawks are very close to being contenders. With the emergence of Stalberg and Shaw and the return of Carcillo, the Hawks have some nice complementary pieces to go along with the core players.

It would also help to get a center who can play PK and win faceoffs, and a rock ribbed big minutes d-man.

Something around Kiprusoff, Crawford and the Hawls first makes alot of sense for both teams IMO

What are you talking about? Crawford, Frolik, and Stalberg are all extremely attractive pieces and every GM is snapping at the jaws for the opportunity to trade their top youngsters for an AHL goaltender and two 3rd liners!

the OP is realistic.
Those are the guys from the NHL roster that will stay and the others are the guys that Bowman is high on and wants to keep unless for big overpayment.

The OP is realistic if you're looking to sign free agents, not looking for a trade.
