A countdown and a Messier chant would be epic for us nostalgic Ranger fans, sure. So it should be done during EVERY game.
But I'd rather everyone do something original and not use the format laid down by this opponent's fans. I'm not really the creative type but if I think of anything I'll suggest it.
We want the cup. We want the cup.... Just keep reminding the Rangers what they are fighting for and what their victory means to the die hard faithful Ranger fans.

I really hope MSG is rocking on Thursday. I was disappointed with the fan response last game.
I heard "we want the cup" chants after game 1 of the 1st freakin round. It made me SICK. I don't want to hear that nonsense unless we have a 3-0 series lead in the Cup finals with a 5 goal lead in game 4...

WE WANT TO BEAT OTTAWA!!!!!
Beating OTTAWA is the road to the cup... Clearly.
They are playing for the cup. The playoffs have begun. One shift at a time....
We borrowed the countdown idea from Nordiques Nation who invaded our building during the regular season. They did a real number on the New Jersey fans when they visited them:
So technically you'd be ripping off an idea we already ripped off... not sure if that makes it better or worse.
Potvin sucks needs to be permanently replaced with plain old cheering or a "Let's go Rangers" chant.
Basically.
Instead of insulting the other team with lame chants, I think the crowd should actually focus on our team and cheer them on in a positive manner. Forget Ottawa. Use all the energy you can muster up and cheer on the New York Rangers. Isn't that a great concept? Then again, this is the same crowd that boos one of the hardest working teams in the league so I can't expect much.

No one said we can't do both.
But to let Ottawa slide without any very loud admonishments would make us look incredibly weak as a fan base. This is the playoffs. They are nasty. It's a rivalry. With the **** ottawa has pulled this series it is absolutely mandatory we tear into them on Thursday. That's just the way it is. That's just what is expected and deserved. To think the crowd, or any crowd for that matter, would just keep their feet on the high road during a game 7 of a nasty series, is nothing short of foolish and silly.
Someone else already posted it here but no one responded. I saw someone come up with the idea on twitter yesterday to count down from 2:22-2:00 (for Boyle) and chant "Neil's an ass hole!"
The "can you hear us" chants originated from social media so we should definitely be able to get something. I've been trying to spread this idea around via my facebook and twitter. Hopefully we get something going!

Sure, you can do both. But it always seems the negative chants focusing on the other team are louder and packed with more aggression and energy. We don't need to get the Senators going. We need our team to get pumped up.
Why can't we be loud and boisterous for OUR team for the whole 60 minutes? Why focus some of our energy on a team we don't care about? I simply don't understand how it would be "foolish and silly" to solely cheer on our team. Let the Rangers do the work on the ice and embarrass the Senators. We can do our part by being loud nonstop in support of our team.

The "can you hear us?" was epic. Would love if our fans came up with something personal like that... clever, direct, unique.
We could always target individual players... like if they are in the box, get into a fight, etc, we could chant directly at them with something.
Just as examples:
Neil: "Keep your head down" clap clap clap-clap-calp
Michalek: "We kick harder"
Alphie: "Mess is better"
Silfverberg: "Our swede's better"
Alright, so I can imagine I'm not the only one in thinking that Ottawa's Alfie chant got pretty annoying, but how awesome would it be if the garden did the same chant, replacing "Alfie" with "Messier"? Let's face it, he's the superior #11 and it would be a big screw you to Ottawa's fans.
Im getting tickets now , gonna sit in the 400's where everyone's loud.. I really hope we can get some chants viral with social media, everyone tweet/fb about this stuff.. Lets do it!
