Toronto.would have to outbid Tampa and vice versa.
I think Tampa has more to offer that they would seem to be willing to part with.
Det 1st and Malone for Luongo, Raymond and a 2nd is a good deal
For Toronto, I think it has to be Schenn+, but I can't see what the + VAN would want.
Plus if Lou can't handle.the pressure in VAN, imagine him in TO.... Lol
What is hard to understand? He's a top 10 goalie with a massive contract. No GM will readily take a 10 year contract unless it's someone like Ovechkin or Crosby etc.
Most GM's have a shelf life of like 5 years. You not only put the team in jeopardy right now if the trade doesn't work out, but also put the teams future in jeopardy by taking on a veteran goalie. That's what I mean by coming cheap.
Tampa might not have a problem with taking on Luongo since they have Lecavalier for life anyways, that is why no one except MAYBE Tampa is going to give up a lot for Luongo. He's 33 years old and he isn't Tim Thomas. He'll most likely regress like Brodeur has in the past years.
The way Schneider has played this season means: 5.3M in cap space >>> Luongo from Vancouver's perspective.
Vancouver can go after Rick Nash through trade, Parise/Suter through UFA.
I would personally guarantee - and bet large sums of money - that the Canucks have no interest in Luke Schenn.
Luongo also won't return Connolly+1st (are you crazy?!) but he'll also return more than people think. He's not a salary dump just because the Canucks get value from moving his cap space... He's a top-5 goalie in the league and had 15 playoff wins last year.
What's gone down in the last couple months has really spoken to Luongo's character. Put the team first, not even a whisper of discontent, and supported Schneider the whole way. For a guy who, earlier in his career, had a bit of a label for wanting things his way, Luongo has been the consummate team player.
Bingo, this whole situation makes me like Luo even more. Classy guy.
This probably means that he wont be coming to Tampa though. The only way I could see the trade happening is if Yzerman got Luo on a steal because he refused to go anywhere else. From the looks of things though, Luongo is gonna allow Gillis to get a fair trade in return, which will likely be too steep for Yzerman. Luongo is really showing some character if this is true. Good for him and Vancouver.
