3 Vezina finalists are announced on Wednesday (Henrik, Quick and Rinne)

Quote:
Wednesday, April 25
Vezina Trophy (top goaltender)
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=629435

Henrik Lundqvist and Jonathan Quick will be two of the three finalists

It will come down to one of those two winning it. The voting has already taken place. It took place at the end of the regular season by the NHL GMs.

The 3rd finalist is tricky. Probably Pekka Rinne. Could be Mike Smith. Brian Elliott.

People thought callahan was a lock for the selke. Wouldn't be surprised if he got stuck with the "top team" excuse and quick, smith and rinne got the nod.

I never thought Cally was a lock for the Selke. Frankly, Bergeron, Datsyuk, and Backes are all better than him defensively. His -8 hurt him, that's for sure.

I agree with the finalists, I can't see anyone else beating out those three.

What ever happened to seniority for the Vezina though? Hank ought to win one already no?

Hank has it in the bag and them some.

He will get about 60% of the votes, 30% to quick, 10% Rinne.

These GMs arent idiots, they know he is has been the most consistent goalie since the lockout, and they also know this is his turn to win it. They aren't voting Quick.

this is one area where winning the president's trophy might have helped.

It was the opinion of hockey people. Just funny to me when i hear guys calling it a two horse race a month ago between backes and cally.

hmm, who to give it to, a guy who takes a team to first place in the eastern conference, playing in the hardest division in hockey, or a guy who takes a team to the #8 spot who plays in the 2nd worst division in hockey?

Decisions decisions.

Who was saying that though? Bergeron was heavily favored for the Selke this year. My bet is on him to win it.

Not disagreeing with you but...every other year we were advocating giving it to the guy who carried his team to 8th place!

And yet it never went to him.

I think Hank gets it this year finally, not necessarily because he was the clear cut best goalie, but because he has been one of the elite goalies in the NHL since the lockout.

Half of me thinks this is going to be like Mo never winning a Cy Young, or Jeter never winning an MVP. The fans know what he did, that's the important part.

He really has the numbers to support his case this year. It's either Henke or Quick. I think the GMs recognize the strength of the Atlantic and give it to Lundqvist.

Sens fan here that would like to comment.

Although Quick was neck and neck with Lundqvist in the regular season as far as stats go, I'd really feel awful for Lundy if Quick won. Quick does have the advantage in games played, GAA (by a measly 0.02) and shutouts, but Lundy has the ever so slight advantage in Save% and has more wins in less games played, which in my mind is actually more impressive than having better stats in more games played like Quick has.

Lastly, I know voting for these trophies is based solely on the current season but you just can't ignore Lundy's body of work since the lockout. He has, what?, 3 Vezina nominations since the lockout. The guy deserves his Vezina and although I hope my team beats him enough times in Game 7 to take the series, I really hope he wins it.

I gotta agree. Quick vs. Lundqvist is a virtual tie so you gotta believe they'll give Lundqvist the edge because of his previous nominations. Quick is younger, he'll be due for it in a few years (or next year, who knows?).
