It really is makes ESPN look like they actually know something about hockey. Really everyone picked the Penguins... lol Not one even flirted with the Rangers or Predators? (my not homer picks) or even the defending Stanley Cup Champion Bruins? No love for St. Louis? And on top of that its like they ignored the fact that the Flyers dominated Pittsburgh all year.
I'm glad you posted that Unstable. I got that issue of SI in my mail almost two weeks ago, and it was actually more of a joke in print than on the interwebs.
As "NHL Playoff preview" was emblazoned on the front I figured they'd give their usual token 2 pages on the playoffs, but it was well worse than that. After their 4 page homage to Lundqvist - with pics of him hanging out with Bieber, McEnroe, etc - they finally got around to getting to their playoff forecast. All 1/2 of a page of it.
It consisted of nothing more than 3 paragraphs of "analysis" stating well known facts that people outside of hockey would know. They only picked the Conference finalists, and eventual cup winner. Surprise, surprise, they went chalk with Vancouver and went as short out on a limb as they could with Pittsburgh.
lol I don't know how anyone could pick the Pens to win the cup this year. I'd like to think they didn't do their homework when it came to the Flyers. I thought this series would come down to the better goaltender, and how you could pick the Pens with Fluery playing absolutely horrible at the end of the season is beyond me.
"The Penguins are too deep, disciplined and talented not to make a run at the cup".
"the Penguins have the dynamic duo. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are simply too much to handle right now, and goalie Marc-Andre Fleury has quietly been excellent for most of the year."
Well, Fleury did nail the "quiet" part.
Of all of these stuffed heads, I'd expect more depth from Farber, who actually knows his hockey. However, he's probably so used to being dumbed down editorially in the lowest-common denominator pages of S(wimsuit)I(ssue) that this type of mail-in commentary is all he needs to collect his paycheque.
