I read it was because he had no intent to injure Girardi. So I guess Hags was head hunting for Alfie. This is just a joke at this point. Shanahan needs to step down because he has no clue as to what he's doing.
I hate whining about refs and the league but its gotten to the point where you need to start wondering.
Neil pretty much made himself a marked man for Game 7.
Marked by the Referees. if he goes anywhere near MDZ and hits him, he's getting a penalty.
Doubt it .... check out the second video in this thread http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1175959. At the end of the video 4:34 in, after numerous views showing Neil interfering with Hank in the crease and then kicking the puck in the net, one of the officials starts making conversation with Neil at the ensuing face-off. Even gives him a little bump as if to say good job. I wonder what they were talking about.
It is unbelievable to see that video and there not be a suspension.
The NHL is a joke. An absolute joke. Shanny can go **** himself. I've lost all respect for him and could careless about the days he had here as a ranger. I honestly hope we win the stanley cup just so we can start an ass-hole chant when Bettman steps on the ice.
This how you handle an incident. Granted Metta World Peace...aka Artest... is a repeat offender, they did not tolerate such a dangerous and senseless play. Neil caught Boyle up high with a blind side hit. The NHL claims they are trying to eliminate those hits from the game to protect its player, but when push comes to shove they just turn a blind eye to the incident. Michalek clearly kicks at Girardi in the video, I mean blatantly kicks at him and all OTT gets is a warning? It is a disgrace. Basketball is nowhere near as dangerous as hockey. They don't have to deal with head shots not nearly as often. But they get one incident on their desk and they take care of it the right way. Shanny gets multiple incidents and he simply can't get it right with really any of them because it changes by the day of what the standard is or is going to be. He needs to go.
"The concussion suffered by James Harden demonstrates the danger posed by violent acts of this kind, particularly when they are directed at the head area," Stern said in a statement. "We remain committed to taking necessary measures to protect the safety of NBA players, including the imposition of appropriate penalties for players with a history of on-court altercations."
they need some kind of point system for suspensions so that shanny doesn't appear to just be blindly throwing numbers out.
like 5-10 points is a fine, 10-15 is 1 game, 15-20 is 2 games, 20-25 is 4 games, 25-30 is 6 games, 30-35 is 10 games, 40+ is case to case
something where hits to the head are like 10 points, blind side hits are 7, repeat offenders go against a multiplier that decays every few seasons of clean play and increases per offense (ie 10 points may be 12 for the first offense, but 15 for the second, 20 for the 3rd|20 points may be 24 for the first, 30 for the 3rd, 40 for the 4th.)). etc etc.
just an example-- lots more should be considered, but the way things are done now is a joke and it does not benefit anybody. (i'm sure shanny doesn't love being hated by the city he works in)
the reason he wasnt suspended, apparently, is because he was on the bottom of the pile and may have felt in danger/panic/whatever and as such it only warranted a warning.
I know everyone here wants a suspension, and wants to believe the conspiracy, but ya know...im trying to put myself in Michaleks shoes/skates...being on the bottom of a scrum, bodies all over you, people screaming at the top of their lungs, the goal siren going on, people crosschecking you and what not...i can kinda understand that whole "GET THE HELL OFF OF ME" feeling. So, as much as nobody wants to hear this, I actually think the league made the right call.
