I am reading between the lines and want to think Shero said Malkin is available...

Well I suppose I'll represent the Leafs here....

Schenn
Lupul
2012 1st (5th)
2013 1st (30?)
Holzer

But I'm pretty sure that isn't enough. We'd probably have to give up something like

Gardiner
Kessel
2012 1st
Kadri

Would that be enough? The Leafs best dman, best forward, best prospect and the 5th overall pick? Does that even make the Leafs better? And then of course Malkin can leave in 2 years. Yeah I'd do the first trade and not the second because I don't think Malkin will be the difference for a cup for the Leafs in two years if we give up Kessel and Gardiner.

I'm not sure either trade makes the pens better either.. I don't think Malkin will be traded. If a centre is gone it is Staal.

Was the second offers value way off for Malkin?

It sure is when compared to a 45 pt forward and a additional a 1 pt forward plus two draft picks.
Okposo, Niederreiter and 2 picks is probably one of the worst offers i have ever seen on this board for Malkin.

Sorry but the Habs are not gutting their team for Malkin.
This is the type of offer it would take but would leave us in a worst position then we're in now.Would love to have Malkin on the Habs but realisticly we can't afford to trade for him.

That's the thing. What team can actually afford to pay the price for Malkin? It would take a crazy trade to get the ball moving and then it probably puts your team in a worse position. Especially considering the mad Russian can jet in two years.

The pens are going to want your best player, top prospect and a first to even consider and then probably add from there. That goes for almost every team in the league.

Unlees the Pens were willing to take say one active roster player,a teams top 3 prospects and 3- 1st rd draft picks for the next 3 seasons it's not happining

Say from the Habs 1 of P.K or Patches. ,Beaulieu,Tinorda,Leblanc and 2012 -2013-2014 1st rd picks. That the only way i could see the Habs doing the deal. Don't know if the Pens would do this .

Not sure if serious? That proposal is horrid. The leads don't have the assets to make such a deal.

Don't try using NYI fans fantasy trades, as a giude to what Malkin would bring back.

Who are we kidding?

Wang is hanging on until 2015 when his lease expires, not willing to spend much above the cap floor.

Wang would be the last owner in the league,to greenlight a trade for a $7m-$8m player.

Obviously Staal won't get to show off his offensive abilities in Pittsburgh. But one would think that you'd trade the defensive responsible center before maybe the worlds best offensive player that doesnt suck totally defensivly.

Something around Duchene for Malkin, Although I don't know what to add after that.

Duchene + Siemens + Elliott + IDK (Downie?)

Actually I guess if your trading a center you don't Duchene. O'Reilly might be better because he would happily play 3rd line center on Pit.

I'm not sure there are any teams that can actually afford to trade for Malkin. He's too talented for Pittsburgh to get anything less than a blockbuster return.

Malkin for Ovechkin.
Ovie looks like he could use a change of scenery.
Ovie next to Crosby=sick.
Washington gets one of the best 1-2 center combos in the league.

I doubt he gets traded BUT:

To Pit:

C/LW: Tyler Ennis
D: Brayden McNabb (teams top prospect NHL ready)
F: Joel Armia (top offensive prospect...first pick 2011 plays center right now, may end up on wing...unknown atm)
RW - Jason Pomminville
Buffalo 2012 First Round Pick
Nashville 2012 First Round Pick
Calgary 2012 Second Round Pick
Buffalo 2013 First Round Pick
One of Terry Pegula's Gas Wells

To Buf:

Malkin
Cap Dump (if needed but I believe you guys are shedding cap in this deal)

And people say that Buffalo doesn't have trade ammo outside of myers...

........or people are just replying to the premise set forth in the OP, whom I suspect is a pens fan (can't really tell from a cell phone)....whereas all you are doing is trying to start an argument....I'm pretty sure everybody knows Malkin will go nowhere....if they don't they are dumb. BUT the thread boils down to "If Malkin were on the block (however unlikely) what would you offer?"

I'd see Staal being moved if there really was an "odd-man out" at centre, not Malkin. The problem with trading a super-star like Malkin is that you inevitably do not get what you would hope for. Staal's return would be very good. But again I doubt they move either one.

If Shero makes any changes, I would go all in that he makes moves to bolster the blueline. And there it would likely be to make room for Despres and one or two mid-priced UFA Dmen.

Massive change is not really needed in Pittsburg, some grit on the bottom line, a healthy(er) Crosby, and a couple changes at D and they are coming back.

Anyone hoping for a miracle to land a superstar, good luck.

But

if Malkin were moved - look for a top 6 wigner, top 4 dman and a 1st

if Staal were moved - look for a top prospect, a 1st and a roster player

Isles would rather have Tavares averaging $5.5m for the next 6 yrs, then Malkin at $7m-$8m per.

Tavares's deal is backloaded. He'll make $4m next season.

How much extra salary do the isles take on in this proposal for next season?$8m-$9m?

The Pens have major needs on D and at forward. Trading either Staal or Malkin makes the forward issue worse before you consider return. I don't see how you are going be able to get the gains at forward and defense you need by trading Staal. You'd get a ridiculous package for Malkin that could get you two nice forward pieces and a nice defender I think. That's the better move IMO.
