We're not swapping Lubo for Martin. You need to find a cap team to take him on, not a budget team.

He's unrestricted at the end of the season, no point in overpaying.

Only way it would be worth considering is if Staal was signed longer term, IMO. But yeah, I'd love having him...especially if there were a way to get him without giving up Ryan so that he and Ryan could play together, which I know would pretty much be impossible.
If I could get a guarantee from his agent he'd sign an extension, and that we will extend Getzlaf and Perry it would be very tempting, but I don't think we've seen Ryan's best and probably wont til he gets no.1 PP time

Yeah, I'd seriously consider it if there were a guarantee of him re-signing...But not sure I'd bite or not. I'm one of the few who still thinks Ryan could turn into a 40+ goal and 80+ points a season player if his role increases. I absolutely love the guy and would hate the Ducks to get rid of him. Picking up Staal would be tempting though.

The more I think about Staal the more I think he's exactly what we need. you can match his lineup vs top lines, get Getzlaf and Perry easier matchups, and you can build a 3rd line of youth and/or offense but like I said the timing is a bit off and the contracts give Ryan a fair bit more value.
Forsberg will be long gone by 6

Probably, but we'll have to wait and see. Yakupov at one is about the only thing scouts have been able to agree on all year.

Staal

for

Setoguchi
Zach Phillips
2012 2nd

Would it take #7 to get Staal? Also could throw Coyle in for Phillips.. Is there any interest in Bouchard?

However, regarding the above bolded statement of yours...I'm curious to hear your explanation as to how 36 points in 73 playoff games constitutes being labeled a playoff beast?
Do you even know how many of those points were HUGE game & series changing/winning goals... A TON!

Palmieri + Lydman + 6th is really what it would take.. maybe we can add 2nd rounder to even it up

This one isn't even close.
Yeah we would have to add obviously.. Personally I would trade Staal + Orpik + pick for Eberle.

Good proposal. But I think Shero would ask for Setoguchi + 7th overall .. something similar to Carter deal.

I hope we don't trade any of our 3 centers. I had a dream lastnight we traded him to the ducks and he ate us up for 5 pts in the 1st game back in the burgh! Thats just a bad sign right there!!!

Pens want to upgrade on D .... they get Schenn while they acquire top 6 forward in Kulemin to play alongside old buddy Malkin.

Toronto finally get their 1C to play with kessel.

I've been really interested in Emerson Etem, is there anyway that we could get him with a deal involving the Ducks and Staal?

I can't believe the Pens are even considering trading Staal. As a Flyer fan, I love this idea.

The only way the Ducks get a Penguins big 3 is if they give up one of their big 3.

Hawks could use Staal in the worst way to fill the 2C position.

I'm not sure we're the best trading partners, however.

Hjalmarsson isn't nearly enough to start with, and Seabrook seems like too much.

Perhaps Olsen + McNeill + 1st? (Still seems like too little.)

Only if it involves Malkin, not Staal. Staal becoming a UFA soon eliminates the possibility of us moving one of our big 3 for him.

We will pass and target someone who is locked up longer.

Fair enough.

I dont see you guys wanting to give up the assets necessary to land Malkin.

That may work if Fletcher could re-sign Staal immediately. If not, no deal. That 7th overall is going to be stud blueliner for the Wild.

Getzlaf and Perry are UFAs at the same time... So that argument works both ways.

Etem has 2 years left in his ELC, Staal is UFA after next season. And Ducks have cap inside the cap.

Staal could be very useful for the Ducks so I guess it's not impossible.

Etem could pot some serious numbers on Crosbys wing.
