It could be worse. We could be paying Semin 6 million bucks a year to play when he feels like it.

Purcell is a great player for his price tag. I think his laziness issue is done with because it wasn't a problem at all in the second half of this year. He was motivated and into the game night in and night out and produced as a result. I think it even opened his own eyes up a bit. Like a "hey, I'm a pretty good at the hockey if I try!" type thing.

We want Despres to replace martin and he has showed great promise. As for Nisky, my original suggestion was him, Martin and Kennedy for Purcell. But like I said, that's probably not worth it to you guys.

We don't want Martin and his contract for Malone, we can get better for him. Kennedy creeps me out with how weird he looks and we have enough bottom 6 fowards. Niskannen is the only one I want from that deal. If Despres is off the table what about Morrow?

The point I was making before was just in general. Not saying TB has to a top d, or that they have the option too but in Vancouvers case moving Schneider is the better option just for return. The delusion of grandure in Van should be gone right now. Another poster thinks Van is going to keep Schneider, I ask why? Schneider brilliant as he is still couldnt win the series. Why? Because Van's D is horrible. Argue against it with whatever you like, the fact is Van is out of the playoffs to the 8th place team. If Vancouver moves Lou for nothing or little GMMG should be fired immediately. His only saving grace could be bringing in Suter or Weber. Problem still arises who takes Lou, not TB or Florida. Maybe Toronto, that's about it. For Tampa toget Schneider, it pains me to say it, will require a roster player who will effect Vans roster immediately. On d we have no one we can give up, especially with our weak d. The more I think about it, the less I see Schneider in Bolts jersey. I'm now sad admitting that.

Also a no-go. He's way too valuable to our organization. And I personally don't want Malone. I was talking about Purcell.

So you want a better player in Purcell yet you are unwilling to give up anything of significance for him.

No. I said Martin, who would most likely excel in your system, Niskanen, and Kennedy. Like I said, it might not be worth it from your side, but those assets are fairly significant.

Vancouver getting ripped off ITT.

FYI guys: FRANCHISE GOALIES are worth a RIDICULOUS amount in trade value.

Luongo is one of 3 NHL goalies in history to have 11+ nhl seasons with a .910% or better save %, if you think hes not worth very much and considering his cap hit being reasonable compared to other starters, you're insane. You are in for MORE THEN A FEW winning seasons with Luongo in net

Well we now know it will be Luongo that is traded not Schneider.
There will be a market for him as he is a good goalie with a decent cap hit. The contract length is awful but the last 4 years are great for cap hits on teams wanting to get to the cap floor. More likely Luongo will play 6 years and retire.
Luongo controls his destiny and can dictate where he will accept a trade to- which he should. I suspect a 1/2 dozen or more teams would be acceptable to him. The next question is return. Although I don't believe we can expect the 10th pick overall or a star coming back- I think a couple picks in round 2 and 3, maybe even round 1 and a decent prospect are attainable. A mild bad contract in return might also be there. I have to admit I'm not sure on return- depends on offers and how much teams want him and where he will accept to go. Bottom line is Schneider is younger, better positionally and Vancouver's goalie of the future. Luongo is a good goalie but is expendable and lots of teams need upgrades. Be interesting.

Lots of teams could use an upgrade but it's a very small few that could afford Luongo's contract, would take it, would consider Luongo a big enough upgrade to make a trade and appeal to Luongo enough to waive his NTC for good.

With Burke so dead set against long term deals I think it basically comes down to the Devils and Lightning which means a package a little better tha what we gave for Gagne who was in a similar situation. There is value in clearing cap space for Vancouver and I think that's where most of the value of the trade comes from.

Normally that's the case, but Luongo's contract decreases his trade value.

Purely his opinion based on speculation.

It's completely in the air still. They could realize they aren't going to get crap for Luongo, which they won't, and say hey we could trade Schneider for something good and still have a good goalie.

I feel like I'm at a used car lot.

"Well this one right here is just as good as the brand new ones on the other side of the dealership"

"How many miles?"

"Well it has 120k, BUT the good news is it will go for another 100k! Cough:Maybe:Cough."

"Monthly payment?"

"Well, around $600 in real money for 6 or 7 years, but we can drop the last couple of years down to $100 to give you an average of about $530."

"How much do you need down?"

"10th overall and Purcell."

.....Walks away

This post wins.

And I agree with Sniper. Canucks fans need to realize they could either trade Luongo and get nothing, or trade Schneider and get a lot of good assets. Either way, they keep a good goalie. The Yzerman is much more likely to make a pitch for Schneids, because thats the direction the Lightning are headed in. He has stated that he wants a young goaltender to mature with Stammer and Co.

However, opportunities like this do NOT come around often. Roberto Luongo is a world class goaltender. If Schneider is unavailable... Bernier maybe? And if not him, give Luongo a look. That contract is long, but you'd have a great goalie (maybe) for a few more years.

Boy I wish I knew The Yzerman's mind.

It's pretty obvious if you watched the interviews, saw the Canucks play Schneider in the last few games, fans reactions, media stories, Luongo's reactions. Not really a stretch to come to that conclusion. I'd take that bet.
For the record- it is my opinion- but not just me.

While I am not completlely against getting Lou I really hope we don't. Aside from the contract I do not think he will be the answer we are looking for. Also one of the biggest issue I have with it is that we are basically saying we have no faith in Tic or Janus as our future.
